Just wondering , sometimes when I walk the dog on the beach I can tell there’s a band of it that’s quite hard packed and I could possibly run on it . Some days though I feel it’s all a bit soft 🤷🏼♀️ Something to with the tide ?
Anyone run regularly on sand ? I imagine it would be easier on knees ? I’ve heard of people running it but only ever seen 1 or 2 actually running on it .
I love the beach in winter so might give it a go and there’s a good 1.5/2 K of it . There’s a road parallel to it so if it’s a daft idea I can quietly reroute 😂

There are some people who run on the beach if they live near the coast, there is a Parkrun in Northern Ireland, Portrush, that is run on a beach and sometimes at high tide the runners are actually running in the sea.
Wow ! The sand must still be hard then 🤷🏼♀️ What a super park run .
I’ll keep an eye on my beach to see if there is always a hard swathe of sand , I just wondered if would always be ‘runnable’ or only at certain tide times .
Fun occasionally...but even hard packed can be a real strain on calf muscles Soft sand... eeek ! I did a park run on that and it nearly finished my running for good Check the post out ! I have run it again and it was hard...but the tide was out a bit and I was faster!
That was a great read 🙏 I’m quickly going off the idea I have to say or at least popping it to the back of my mind for quite awhile. Think this newbie runner would do well to concentrate on one surface at a time for now 😂🏃🏻♀️😂
I’ve run on beach but it’s mainly stones not sand and it was really hard work. I tried it thinking it would be a good alternative to paths but my goodness the pain in my ankles after, made me decide it wasn’t a good idea. Still do coastal runs but definitely stick to well used sandy compacted paths now. Interested to hear about people’s sand running experiences tough - hope it’s better than stones.
‘My’ beach is pretty wide when tide out and although has swathes of stones at top band is quite compact for a good width at water line . Someone once told me locals run on it but Ive only seen the odd runner and that was awhile ago. My friend also suggested it might be kinder on the knees. I have no issues with my knees ( yet !) so I’m going to keep on the roads and pavements for now as I’m still fairly new to running and have enough challenges to be getting on with 👌😂🏃🏻♀️ One to try out in the future though🤔
I did run on the beach at the start of C25k; I can’t distinguish between issues caused by beach running and the problems caused by starting to run at age 66!!
People do it though. I think that there are some technique issues; for example there is often a slope from the top of the beach to the sea; I have seen suggestions that you need to tack along the beach so that you don’t run for too long with your legs at the same angle. Worth a bit of Googling.
Thanks I did just that , funny how we can google everything these days but then some days I totally forget it exists 😂😂 Found some good articles , you’re right about the zig zagging on the slope 👌
Sounds like hard work and I might leave it until I’m a bit better at what I can do now on the road. I just wistfully look at it occasionally but from what I read it’s not the dream run I perhaps think it is 😂😂
Thanks for that 👌 by all accounts or the ‘dream run’ it looks like . Can certainly do without injuries or the hard work it sounds like so I think I’ll just stick to walking the dog on it 😃🐶
