Free Apps for 5k to 10K

Anyone know of any good free app to help me go from 5k to maybe 10k. All those I have seen so far are free for one week then you have to pay!

Alternatively a great app to make me run for 30 mins. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've looked at a few & asked the same question a couple of weeks ago! I even installed one but decided I didn't like it. What I want is a continuation of the One You app really lol!

At present I'm just consolidating my 30 min runs, trying to settle into them more comfortably instead of still feeling like a rookie or a fraud each time.

A friend suggested trying a HIITS regime for a bit to build up stamina & speed. I'm not sure so will be asking advice on here shortly!

Meanwhile I'll be following to see What other, more helpful responses you get 😉

Hi SunnyMummy, I think we're at the same stage and I've just asked the same question 🤔. I'm also consolidating 30mins/5k at the moment but wondering how to move on when I feel ready. Tanks for your query and happy running.

Hi.. and welcome.

It is a great idea if you have just graduated, to take some time for consolidation runs of thirty minutes. Just because you can:)

As you know our running legs and stamina and strength take quite a while to build.. C25K has only just started the process...and the advice you will get on this forum is that moving straight on to a 10K plan is not always a brilliant idea :)

Runs of thirty minutes and varying distances etc and routes are what many of the Graduates have done.. then, when you have enjoyed those runs without pressure, take a peek at the C25K+ podcasts.. they are so useful for different disciplines in our running.

When the time is right, there are lots of 10K apps out there that are free..:)

Thank you for the advice. Definitely take that on board. Trying to run before I can walk. Hang on I can run!

Having graduated a couple of months ago I have just started on working to 10k. I downloaded a free podcast which takes you up to 60 minutes of running over 6 weeks (although mine will be longer due to time issues on one of my runs).

Hiya........interested to know which one you are using as the 60 mins over 6 weeks sounds good! :-)

It's by bluefin software - the podcast is free to download. I think there is a pay for app too. Just search for bridge to 10k podcast and you should find it.

I have downloaded two since completing, both on the App Store

10K Runner

5K Pacer

Both from Fitness22 I think. I am working through the 10K runner one as after reading on here and elsewhere the prevailing wisdom is that a structured improvement in my distance and cardio base will build pace over 5K which is my aim. The ramp up is gradual and gives me the same structure as C25K, just a week or so in, yesterday which for example is 5min warm up and cool down walk with 10r/1w/10r/2w/10r/3w/10r/4w/10r

...I did 70 mins of exercise and 50 of it was running, if you took be back to 25th April when I started this I'd never have believed I could 😊

Some choose not to use a specific app but just to increase one of their weekly runs (turning it into your weekly long run). I preferred this method as I could be guided by how my body felt. Once I had consolidated 3 x 30 min runs and then 3 x 5k run a week, I gradually increased one run sticking to the 10% rule which means making sure you do not increase your total weekly distance by more than 10% a week. This meant I had the flexibility to build up my distance but also some weeks I just consolidated the long run from the previous week. Works well for many but I know that some prefer a more structured programme. Choose which works best for you. Good luck🙂

Hi. I used Zoombies run as for me running and walking was on a tedious side. The zoombies 5k you have to pay though the zoombies run you don't and would highly recommended it. Have fun getting zoombies chassing you:-)
