Poor shoes

Almost exactly a year ago I took my shiny new running shoes out for their maiden run. 981 km later they are looking very sorry for themselves (especially the left one). The cushioning at the back has ripped on both of them (all those little stones on the trails grinding down the back of my Achilles' tendon), my not very pronounced bunion has pushed its way through and somehow I've managed to rub a hole near the shoelaces. And of course the soles are well and truly worn. Plus they seem to have gone brown and generally quite yukky! So I'm going to have to venture into town in the very near future and get some more equipment, aren't I?

I know, I'm aiming for 1000 over a 12 month period. Should get there by the end of July. I love running at the moment!

I always have several pairs of different shoes on the go at any one time (2*trail+1* road) and rotate their use. This makes them last over a longer period, means your feet don't get a shock when you suddenly dispose of one pair for new ones and also mean you can pick up shoes in sales.

Those look like they have served you well JaySee and you have well exceeded the 500-800k normally recommended before replacement.

I do have another pair of really light trainers that I take on business trips. But they are really ancient, if not quite so battered. I need to make an investment I fear...

Investment is the only way to view it. You are obviously as loathe to be parted from your money as I am, but look at the pleasure to be had.

Because I rotate my shoes, it is difficult to keep track of their respective mileage, but your post has prompted me to look into the age of my road shoes. I only normally use them on my weekly long run but now realise they are over two years old........gulp....

All...really good sale price...I got the first extra pair because my first were so comfy..I was afraid if they wore out I would not get another😉 and that applied to my trail and track shoes..and it does mean less wear and tear..🙂

FOUR PAIRS? Holy Moly, girl! you're a shoe addict :) The question is, do you put the Brooks or the Asics with the cocktail dress? :)

I have 3 pairs for road 1 pair for off road and phase old and new in and out.. and start to use the older more worn ones just for walking, looks like you've been chewing one there JaySee, got a bit hungry out on one of the runs?😁

Blimey, those deserve a state burial with full rites.... interesting to see the amount of wear on the foam bit at the back. When did it start?

Have fun buying your new shoooooze :)

I can't remember when they started falling apart at the back! But they've certainly got bad recently. It doesn't bother me or irritate in any way - thank goodness.

I've already heard of Asics that get wear/holes in the foam behind the heel at very early stages of wear, I was wondering if it was a weakness in these shoes (rushes off to check her own). Having said that, yours have done very well to last so long.

They look like mine. I have had to cut the back of one of mine because of Achilles rub, and my toe/bunion wears a hole in the same place on all my shoes.

I took a pair of mine to the shoe bin the other day. My first pair of Karrimor tempo. They are still good but just too small. It was a wrench to say goodbye.

I am going to chuck out my ancient Cascadias as the tread is gone and one has sprung a hole in the sole. Dog walks will be an old pair of Pegasus. I am chucking out a pair of kinvara shoes too. I need space for the new ones 😎

Any idea what you are going to get? If not, have fun browsing 😃👟

I shall toddle off to the running shop I bought them in and hope they have a sale. I'll probably go for Asics again, my previous pair was also from them - mind you they didn't disintegrate like this pair. In fact I still wear them for my morning walks, even though the sole is well worn.

Poor old shoes that do look a bit sorry for themselves! 😕 I got some asics trail shoes and one of them has worn through the back a bit after less than 70km ,they are comfy but that is putting me off asics !luckily they were £25 in the sale ! Hope you find some lovely new shoes!

I make the same hole near the laces. It is only on the inner side of the shoes and in my case only on the right foot. It happens because my shoes touches my other leg ever so slightly when I run :)

I have four pairs myself. Two Nike, one Asics and one Adidas. I don't use the Adidas as they are too small, but take turns in the other three. 👟👟👟
