Hi. I graduated from c25k this week and have now started on a 5210k app and I found it hard.
The feeling of satisfaction I got from finishing the c25k gave me false hope today because i thought....I've got this, 20minutes is nothing...right... wrong!! I thought that it would be easy to run for 20 minutes but I was wrong. I did it though because if I don't do it today I will only have to do it again another day anyway.
Should I stick with the app or just go it alone and increase my distance slowly. I've got my first 10k in September...any advice would be really welcomed thanks ☺ xx
Mix it up a bit. There is no hurry. Be a bit Zen about it as you don't want to hurt yourself or get turned off. It should be a fun time so just chill and it will happen 😃
If you feel it's too hard at the minute then just increase using the 10% a week rule, or 10% a month even 🙂 You can then get back to the app when you get fitter
Have you not checked our very own Juicy Ju's 10k plan. Do have a look? She's a superb runner and knows what it,is to be graduate from C25k
Its just a bad run, so park it and decide next moves. To stay running you want to find it fun particularly in these early days. So i agree with MissW, mix it up a bit.
I didnt move directly to B25k after graduation, I consolidated my 5 k for a while first. Even so when i followed a 10k programme i found three longer runs a week was too much. So I mixed it up a bit and followed the 10% per week increase on one run only. It soon mounts up. Many say once you get to 8k you can do 10k.
Listen to your body and enjoy. Good luck with your distance training but go steady.
You may be a graduate but you are still a very new runner with only a few hours running on your legs,so do yourself a favour and don't push too hard. Consolidate for a few weeks. Run in different places. Try parkrun. Have fun just getting used to running.
You have plenty of time to get up to 10 k. Many of us did not use formal plans but just increased one run per week within the 10% rule, which can get you up to 10k in just a few weeks.
Remember, slow and steady progress is still the safest guide.
