Finished the C25K back in March and just signed up for the Brighton Marathon in 2017. I've not run on the road yet, only treadmill so figured I would do the C25K again on the road so I can "learn to run again" !!!
Time to go longer.....: Finished the C25K back... - Bridge to 10K

Wow! When is the Marathon? seems a good way to go from treadmill to running outside but you might find it isn't that hard. I would recommend running on soft ground as much as possible to avoid impact injuries, worked for me. Just be aware, I found moving from 30 minutes to 5k reasonably challenging and I just managed to get myself to 10k (again a little challenging)! Now I have a September Half Marathon so need to get going! A Marathon though, wow, don't think I will ever get to that level
good for you!! I did Brighton this year and sadly its all tarmac... I would suggest going outside but I wouldnt start all over again just take it slow and steady... Its so much more fun running outside and grass/ trails are superb
Thanks juicyju, I'll keep you posted on how things are going.
I kept listening to the couch to 5k podcasts for ages after I graduated, but I agree with others above you may not find it as difficult as you think to run outside after completing c25k on the treadmill. How about trying week 5 runs 1, 2 & 3, then skipping to week 9 with Laura telling you how long you've got left. Also there are the c25k+ podcasts if you haven't already found them. And just doing your own walk/runs. Enjoy! And let us know how you progress - very impressed at the leap to a marathon - good way to stay focused!
Thanks Ruth, some good advice. I haven't found the C25K+ podcasts so will look for them now.
That's what I like to see - ambition! You are an inspiration to us all. The programme taught us that a significant part of getting to 5k was in our head and I'm sure the same applies to marathons. Go for it, good luck and keep us posted with your training. I also graduated in March so am very keen to see what you are up to
I'm in awe of your ambition to become a long distance runner. Maybe I'm actually most of all impressed by the fact that you know what your long term goal is... I'm a May graduate and I still have no idea, where my journey is taking me. How did you know that a marathon is the right thing to aim for?
I'm grateful for your comments, but probably undeserved of them. Whether a marathon is the right thing to aim for or not, I don't know but I know, like most of us that I am more driven when I have an aim, and break it down into bite size chunks
Wow! Good luck with your training. To help keep you focused, have you thought of signing up for a couple of shorter distances in the meantime? There are plenty of 10k and HM events which would help you get used to events? Also, don't forget free 5k runs at your local parkrun - these would be really great if you are used to running on your own on a treadmill. Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck☺
Thanks Sandra, yes I plan to enter a couple of 10K and probably a HM along my journey in readiness.
Good luck Jack. Definitely try and run on soft ground as much as you can as you increase distance. Obviously you need to take it gradually and listen to your body so you don't get hurt. It is a short time to go from graduation to a full marathon perhaps so I would try to strengthen back and stomach muscles, they will need to be strong to keep you running upright for such a long time. Mind you this is a case of do what I say and not what I do!
Hee Hee!!! Nice one Bop!!!
