No time? Go time!

I’d decided last week was going to be a gentle week after my epic 10K race and since enjoyed the NRC recovery runs so much that this week was in danger of becoming another easy one. Not that there would have been anything wrong with that but I’ve got a habit of staying in my comfort zone for too long and regretting it later. It was an unexpectedly free morning so I thought I’d fit in a run before it got too hot. Loaded up a 15 minute recovery run on the NRC app and then thought no. Time to try something new. The No Time? Go Time! run sounded like fun so off I went.

This was a hard but really fun run. It’s been ages since I’ve done intervals (maybe one since finishing c25k a few months ago) and I wasn’t really sure what my pace was meant to be for the speedy bits. I liked the description in terms of effort so I just went with it and tried not to over think. It was 1 min 1 mile pace, 2 mins 5k pace, 3 mins 10K pace, 2 mins 5k pace then 1 min 1 mile pace to finish with 1 minute recovery between each interval. That first interval was an absolute killer and I was really struggling to recover in the minute. I felt like I got into it as I went along and the last sprint went really quickly. It was a bit unfortunate that there were lots of dog walkers out and every time I slowed right down, it was just as I met a person. Awkward! I remember that happening a lot during c25k but since I’ve mainly been doing long slow runs since, I’d forgotten what it was like! Luckily everyone was friendly and there were some lovely dogs out there today.

Including the warm up and (extra long!) cool down walks, I was out for about 40 minutes total but I feel like I’ve had a great workout. The plan is for some lovely cool down yoga and a shower. Great start to the day!

That's a brilliant workout! I remember having so much fun with that run, until then I hated intervals but now I love them! To be honest I think it's all because of the NRC coaches, they're brilliant! 😃Well done, it sounds like a fab run for you today, definitely a great start to the day! 👏👏👏

Thanks! It’s funny, I spent lots of the c25k programme counting down to ditching the intervals and just doing long continuous runs. I think as I’ve run more, I’ve realised how much I really like those short bursts. Am in such a good mood right now! Looking forward to the next speed run which is going to be Run Strong Repeat. Not for a few days though!

They really are fun! Totally different to the kind of high you get after a long, chilled out, easy run through the countryside which is what I’ve been doing for ages. Roll on the next one…after a good rest!
