My Triathlon

My Triathlon

Firstly thank you for all of the encouragement for my triathlon, I am sure I have bored you rigid with it recently.

So here's the report. Started very early with a 5.20am get up, just managed to turn the alarm off before it woke MrsMat30 so that was a good start to the day. A breakfast and then completed my final few tasks. My very kind brother came and picked up my bike and we both drove to the event with my fan club (MrsMat30 and my lovely daughter Charlotte) at 06:50. Registered, got written on with my number 118 (and yes I got lots of comments on that) that doesn't look as though it will wash off anytime soon. Set up transition and so reported to the swim. Started the swim, which did not feel particularly good, but according to my swim coach (MrsMat30, who has sat through every swim training session) she said it was really good. That took 21.54 although that incorporated a 10 minute wait, my actual swim time was 9.42 and then the run from the pool to the transition area. I only spent 1 minute exactly in T1 which was excellent considering I had to put socks, bike shoes, glasses, cycling shirt and helmet on before taking the bike out for a spin. 21km later in 47.26 and so to T2 to rack my bike and change shoes, only 52secs in there and so off for the run which took 35.15 for the 5.6km run. All in all I had allocated myself a time of 1hr 45mins before my race and although there will be a lot of people faster than me my official time was 1:36:28 which equals a very happy but tired Mat30. 8 minutes 32 seconds ahead of my own personal time is now a PB for me, one that I may well want to beat at some point. I even got some bling!

Thanks again for sending me good thoughts and sparing the time to keep reading my ramblings, I promise they will not be as long or as boring.

Stay healthy and keep on running!

  • Brilliant post ! Take a bow Mat30 , you triathlete !

You have done so so well, worked hard and it has paid dividends for you and a PB to boot !

We are all so proud of you on here . Swimming, bike riding and then running a 5k must be so tough !

Enjoy your well deserved, well earned rest, you did magnificently ! :-) xxx

  • Great photo Mat , the bling looks fab !

    118 :-D .. Snort .... :-D xxx

  • I'm ready for all the remarks for the number. I didn't want to tell MrsMat30 just because of the P take that I was going and did get.

  • I think you have on the wrong shorts for that number and might be missing the 'tache! But well done on the triathlon, that was a great time, has it inspired you to do another one?

  • Thank you so much poppypug. The PB is because it's my first so it is a default one and not one that I have beaten or anything.

  • Ah , its still a PB by technical default :-) xxx

  • Brilliant, lovely pic and what a great support crew you have... I totally love the 118 too!!!!! Huge mega well done ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  • Thanks ju-ju- I couldn't have carried out all the training and everything that goes with that without them.

  • Superb, brilliant effort Mat30 all your hard work has paid off , you should be very proud, once again well done ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • Thanks Slow_Rob I'm still smiling!

  • brilliant well done!!

  • Thanks givman

  • Congratulations Mat! Great picture and it sounds like it all went brilliantly on the day! Wear that bling with pride๐Ÿ˜€!

  • Thanks Sandraj39 it did indeed go as planned.

  • Fabulous.

My brother knows one of the original 118 chaps. Evidently your lucky number! Except that you worked hard for this achievement... you were so much faster than you thought!

  • Thanks GoogleMe it has brought a lot of laughter today that's for sure.

  • Oh Mat that's brilliant. So well done. And what a fabulous time too! All that hard work paid off and you must be chuffed to bits. Big congratulations,

  • Thanks Irishprincess I am very chuffed although I have been thinking of how I can improve already lol.

  • And why not ๐Ÿ˜Š

  • Brilliant, Mat, all that hard work paid off! Love the fact that MrsMatt and daughter were firing you on as well.

  • Thanks JaySeeSkinny couldn't have gone through all the training without their support.

  • Well done Mat you have done fantastically there! Great dedication got you a brilliant result!๐Ÿ˜Š

  • Thanks aliboo70

  • Congratulations Matt. So pleased for you after your hard work. Congrats to Team Matt too for sticking with it and helping you along ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ†๐Ÿพ

  • Thanks AnnieW55 team Matt is the best!

  • Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone on here who has provided moral support. This forum really is amazing!

  • Wow, nailed it. Congrats :)

  • Thanks Terrorrun

  • Ooh brilliant! Well done you! How long was the swim, and why did you have such a long wait?

  • There was a big queue Curlygurly2, the swim was 400m

  • That's a pretty good time for 400 MTs, well done! Seems unfair that they should add the waiting time on...

  • Curlygurly2 i have worked out what happened with my times. When I went through the transition my chip didn't beep which means that although the overall time I have been given is correct, it means that my swim time has gone down as 21.54 and my cycle time was only 37 minutes which is exactly 10 minutes too fast. So take the 10 minutes off my swim time, add that on to my bike and everything is good. No waiting time. It wasn't until today that I managed to work it out as my splits were given to me. Hope that clears it up.

  • That's good! Glad it's all as it should be x

  • Congratulations - all your hard work and preparation paid off! I'm glad your support team cheered you on, and what a great time :)

(and like everyone else, I love your number :D )

  • Thanks Anniemurph team Mat30 is awesome (me not included)

  • Oh Matt, that was not a long or boring report, and to talk of the next one already just goes to show you are absolutely bonkers! I guess this is what's called fun in your world.

    Major respect. Well Done.

  • That's me Slowstart I'm bonkers alright!

  • Very well done! What a great run time after after all that went before!!

  • Actually runningnearbeirut I was a bit disappointed with my run time. That's something to work on for the next one.

  • With all that went before, I still think it's a great time!!

  • Well done Mat, that's great.

  • Thanks Coddfish

  • Great report ! I was there with you. It all sounds very exciting!

I could just imagine the major faffage at the changeovers if I was doing it ๐Ÿ˜Š

The bike ride was flippin long! Well done!

  • Ha ha misswobble , the faffidge !!! I cant even go there in my head, just thinking about all that would involve is making me break out in a cold sweat ! :-D xxx

  • ha ha poppypug and misswobble fortunately I was already sweating so nobody noticed.

  • I couldn't even get out of my own front door today. The key got stuck! Could I get the ruddy thing out ๐Ÿ˜  Some folk just sail through life don't they ๐Ÿ˜Š I can'-t imagine being able to find where I'd left the bike, let alone find clothes and get changed. Oh to be organised

  • Ha ha, I know ! Can you imagine what we would be like on the transistions ? :-D

I would probably end up running in my wet suit ! :-) xxx

  • poppypug you are not allowed so you would be there for a while trying to pull off your suit! there are ways to get out of them although I was in a pool so I didn't have to. I think I will have to build up to an open water event seeing as swimming is not my forte.
