I am 62 female with severe osteoporosis scoliosis and kyphosis suffered T12 spinal fracture. After being on Alendronic Acid weekly tablet for 2 years I am now being prescribed Teriparatide. My question is has anyone had this drug brand name Sondlebay and is it different with different side effects to Forteo. Also what are the most common side effects.
My other issue is my nurse has told me to stop Adcal d3 and only continue with Vit D3 she will do a blood test in 3 months to recheck calcium levels. It's just I read it is advisable to be on Adcal when on Teriparatide but she explained my levels were fine and my cholesterol was high and I had a kidney stone be it small last year.
Any thoughts advice would be helpful

Hello I had a 2 year course of Teriparatide under the brand name of Movymia. I believe it is referred to a bio similar drug to Forteo. It is I believe cheaper for the NHS than Forteo. I assume your drug is similar. After so many years have elapsed after a drug has been invented other companies are then allowed to copy it. I believe this is the case with Forteo.
As with many drugs side effects vary from person to person, but the main side effects I suffered were rapid heart rate after every injection and joint pain particularly in my ankles and knees! I stuck with it as my T score was -5 for spine and wanted to do all possible to avoid another vertebral fracture. I was taken off calcium supplements as I had too much calcium in my blood. I just take my consultants recommended level of D3. I had regular blood tests throughout the course to monitor levels. I don’t know yet what gains have been made as I haven’t had a DEXA scan. This will be sometime next year.
Please seek advice from your prescriber if you have any concerns re side effects. Support is important and the ROS nurses are on hand if you need them too.
Good luck with your upcoming course and hopefully your bone density will improve.
Hi I’ve just starting my 2 year course of Teriparatide (Sondelbay) after about 15 months on alendronic acid I also take Adcal-D3 two capsules twice a day . So far the only side effect is slightly nausea . I do my injections at night . I’ve never been advised to have my bloods re-checked as they were normal before I started the injections, but it’s something I’m going to ask to be done in a few months.
Thank you for your reply which is very interesting. It is strange how they ask some to stop adcal and others continue. I did question this with my nurse and she states my calcium levels are all OK so don't need it but will do bloods in 3 months. Have to say I'm dreading nausea but fingers crossed will not be too bad. I'm just waiting on nurse to give me a date when she will come to show me how to use pen. Good luck on your journey
