I have been taking vit D and K2 for a while now and have been told that I should be taking magnesium to help with the absorption , only not sure which one to take, there’s so many . A friend has recommended magnesium bisglycinate , which I’ve not heard of. Also I’ve read that taking magnesium can interfere with Risedronate which I am taking for osteopenia. Any suggestions please.

Lucy1578 ,
Please read about "Alendronic Acid", its side effects and how it is fakes your DEXA score. Please discuss about this topic with your GP.
On the magnesium, please see if you can get plant based or organic magnesium supplements. We do get here in India.
We’ve noticed this post regarding some concerns about DXA bone density scanning. We fully understand you want to know all about ways to measure your bone strength. Many of you feel uncertain when you don’t get very clear answers which is frustrating.
We encourage you to read more about this on our website. The important thing to grasp is that DXA scanning doesn’t provide a perfect measure of bone strength. This doesn’t mean results are ‘fake’ but DXA shouldn’t be used on it’s own to make drug treatment decisions. Results have to be combined with other ‘risk factors’. Some of these, such as older age, mean that bone strength is affected other ways not shown on the scan such as reduced bone quality - when the structure inside bone has ’broken down’. It doesn’t mean that DXA is wrong, but we may have an unrealistic expectation of what the scan can show us. hi Lucy. I use a liquid form of magnesium called “Remag the magnesium miracle”, because I was told that magnesium is not well absorbed in tablet form. Hi just wanna know if this is true and if it is working? I don’t. But I’ve been taking this liquid for years, however not on residronate.
Hi Lucy, I wasn't told anything about not taking Magnesium while on Risedronate. The magnesium I take is 375mg magnesium oxide at 5.30pm, mainly for cramp and hopefully bones.
Hi Lucy,
I take Magnesium citrate (150mg) supplemts to help with the side effects of taking calcium carbonate supplemts (500mg) combined with Vitamin D3 (800IE)! I read that if I took calcium citrate I wouldn't need to take the magnesium because the calcium citrate is better absorbed into the bones than the carbonate.
I can't find a calcium citrate supplement that also includes Vitamin D3, So I just take the magnesium supplement to resolve the unpleasant side effects.
Hope this helps!
Magnesium Glycinate, or Bisglycinate is considered the best overall type. Most of us are deficient in magnesium and a supplement is recommended a couple times a day.
Hi Lucy1578 , Thanks for your post about food supplements for bone health, we can see that everyone is giving each other a lot of support which is great.
We have noticed that some people have been saying food supplements are essential to ensure good bone health. Just to let you know there is further, information on our website about healthy eating.
