I wrote up my experience on no drug improvement of bone density and you might like to read it. I believe that boron is one of several micronutrients which are important for healthy bones, although I hadn't heard it helps you gain weight! I normally take a calcium supplement which includes boron but the store ordered the wrong kind for me last time, no boron. So they suggested a separate boron supplement, which is indeed 3 mg per day, so that seems to be the standard dose for a boron supplement. Internet does seem to imply that boron dose can affect body mass and helps male athetes develop stronger muscles. No doubt exercise is what is doing the work, and boron is helping.

thanks, there's that many different types of boron and dosages hard to know which is best.

I just trusted the place where I bought mine as they specialise in health care products. not a pharmacy, but they seem knowledgeable

Solgar 3 mg daily is exactly what I’m taking. Hadn’t heard of weight gain, I’ve gained over the last year but I’ve always blamed snacking so maybe it’s the boron too.

I'm kind of thin and have been for years, since before my polymylagia diagnosis. If prednsone didn't make me fat I don't think boron will!

Thank you HeronNS. I always read your posts with great interest. It is so heartening to know that there is an alternative to the awful drugs my doctor wants to prescribe. Thanks to your posts I have been on a similar regime for 3 years now and have taken up weight training. My next DEXA scan is due later this year. It will be interesting to see the results - fingers crossed!

I take 6mg boron daily.

A serving of prunes supplies 2-3 mg boron which is daily requirement, I understand and prefer this to another pill or supplement

So would I especially as I love prunes but the serving amount suggested daily, unfortunately does me no favours, if you know what I mean! ;)

Thank you!

I’m like you, I prefer not to take the drugs offered for osteoporosis as from what I’ve read, I think your bones end up in a worse state.

that’s what I’m fearful of as well as some of the awful-sounding side effects. I’m currently on 2 years of Teriparatide daily injections but don’t know what I’ll do when finished - not Alendronic acid etc for sure.

just depends how bad you are me with severe osteoporosis, I will be having zoledronic acid infusion after dental work, either fractures or meds, side effects in every medication.

I've read 6 - 12 prunes each day. ;)

Radar, if you do start zoledronic acid infusion look into the benefits geranylgeraniol, a substance in the body that declines as we age, that also prevents statin induced skeletal muscle fatigue in addition to other benefits. I too use a boron supp;ement, 3mg three times a day with food, because I want to insure I have sufficient levels for it to perform all the benefits it offers especially preventing me from loosing height. I don't have much to start with. Search on Nothing Boring about Boron. Radar, also check out a form of vitamin E called tocotrienol especially from the annatto plant. It not only aids in bone building but is a cancer fighter as well plus more. It's not just another pretty face. Always consult your health care professional before using any supplement.
