I have osteoporosis with 7 compression fractures in my spine.I realise my posture isn't good and I'm trying to hold my shoulders back as far as possible.
I have a curved back and a protruding tum.
Just been trying on summer clothes and even been shopping for new things but wish I could just stay in my winter jumpers, loose and comfy and covering a multitude of bumps!
Does anyone have any tips for me please?

Dresses that are loose suit me best. Have pretty colours. Focus on your face and hair and some jewellery. Dress to please you and make you feel happy. Do you have a favourite colour? Shoes that are comfortable and colourful. I have some colourful crocs for summer that I can slip into. I like brooches but you might like earrings. You are more than your appearance as well.
I have the same affliction. I wear loose long tops, shorts etc with elasticated waist, used to wear flowing dresses when I went out but as I'm housebound no point. Bought meself a boob tube elasticated thing which has a sort of skirt flare thing that covers bulge, last year, so it rained a lot! 😁 Lucky I still have nice legs, just the middle bit's a wreck soI disguise it as much as poss, so no tight tops. 🤔
Lady with osteoporosis and scoliosis in my Pilates group wears tunic tops and leggings to come and that looks fine - so how about trousers or skirts and tops.
I have osteoporosis in my sternum, caused by meningitis when I was 10 years old, deformed chest, I have epilepsy so have broken every rib in my body at some time, so never any "six pack" have to wear loose clothing, heavy woollies at present, most people are not aware of my chest, take it for granted, my chest of straw means I have to be careful when sleeping, I might dislocate a rib, sometimes lie in bed for a hour or two to adjust, I am retired live by myself, so my life is to myself, presently the weather has been cold and wet for last eight months, live in Northern Ireland, so winter woollies is 'in' and hides my sternum. I like to wear rude t-shirts when really warm, so no sun bathing, ironic it must be my old French ancestry I go brown very easily look cool and tanned😎
I’m exactly the same. My back is rounded and my tummy bulging. I must admit it’s worse at night. I’m in a lot of pain if I do much too. I was tidying some drawers this morning and I felt good. And then it started to go downhill again. I’m now sat down resting. My back is at the back of my recliner with my feet slightly raised. If I’m sat in my chair or lying in bed I’m fine. But I can’t do a lot otherwise.
As for clothes. In the summer mine will be cut off trousers with a loose top. I would say on a cooler day to wear a scarf. It fits into your neck and makes the hump a little less. In the winter a nice hooded jumper or jacket covers it too.
I too suffer with a lot of pain if I do to much. . I've kyphosis which is causing a lot of pain. I've had chronic pain in my neck and lower back for 28 years. I see a pain management specialist for injections and infusions to help the pain. I also did a pain management course and one thing that really helped me was pacing eg don't try to do everything in one go that will bring on more pain rather do it in 5/10 mins and then rest for a while. Hope this helps.
That is my trouble. I go headlong into things thinking I can do this. And really I know I can’t. I went out yesterday to the Chemist. You can’t ring them any more because they are always busy. I get my prescriptions delivered but they didn’t deliver my inhaler which was running out yesterday and today. I tried to ring all morning and couldn’t get through. So I drove down in my car. I don’t know why because I’ve not been too bad another time but my back really ached and so did my neck. I get neck ache sometimes when I’m having a wash. I’ve had pain now for four years. I can’t do a lot and I can’t do a lot of walking. It’s really annoying and frustrating.
I've had three sets of injection's and infusions in my lower back recently. My pain consultant said they'll take time to work, could be months. I'm now scheduled in for injections in my upper for pain cause by kyphosis. He said he's had good results with these so fingers crossed.
Is it any better at all. My T12 is serious whatever that means but funny enough it doesn’t give me too much trouble. It’s the ones up higher that hurt when I do anything. Mind you sometimes it hurts from my waist up to my neck.
I went for pysio and the physio said he’d given me all the exercises he could and the next thing is to refer me for surgery. I said no thank you at the time.
I found, ironically due to my diabetes 2 I 'work' out on a exercise bike, because I am in a sitting position, gets my legs working well, I have osteoarthritis in my knees, but not too bad presently, [although could be good weather?] I thus am 'reasonably' fit BUT trying to do gardening, I have to pace myself, or else next morning rib cage structure very sore, have to lie on my back to let pain accumulate, slowly🙄can be half an hour?
I’m in a 16 now. I’ve never been so big waisted. I ordered some cut off trousers from Roman and when I got them they were even too long for trousers.I’m not kidding. How tall are these young people now. They must be giants. These beautiful dresses you see are like putting a ten year old child in them. I can’t buy Children’s because they wouldn’t go round me. I was 5’2 or 3 tall. I’m now 4’9 or 10. There’s nobody makes clothes for us.
I have a similar problem, but mine is a hernia. However, I have been wearing loose tops and trousers/skirts for years. My main problem now is, having suddenly lost a lot of weight, only my stomach keeps my trousers up, sometimes!!! 🤣 Not a good look walking along and frequently pulling jeans up.
Braces. When I was pregnant I used to wear my regular trousers unfastened at the waist with braces to hold them up and a loose fitting top to cover it all up.
I'd forgotten about braces. I used to wear them when I was pregnant. You could get some brilliant coloured ones. Like you wore my regular trousers. Thanks for reminding me. Have a good week.🙂
~Just want to say to YorkshireOAP + everyone else who responded that feeling for you all and love the positivity displayed with all your wonderful answers.
Many thanks to all of you for your replies! It's good to hear from people in a similar situation.
I have been fine all winter with trousers, baggy tops and jumpers.
However with summer hopefully approaching I find most tops are almost like dresses because I have lost so much height and my bust and tum meet, with no space in the middle!
Then there's the curved back so beware of any clingy materials!
I try to make the best of things as I'm reasonably well, live alone since my husband passed last year and try to look my best at all times.
Agree with comment about hooded tops and scarves. I like winter dressing better too. Hides more. I was thinking of going to a maternity store to get pants. Hoping they will fit my tummy but not be too baggy elsewhere. Will let you know if I try that. I also wear platform running shoes and boots. Can't wear heels anymore - platforms are nice and level, and usually quite comfortable. I've lost 3.5 inches with compression fractures and kyphosis, so the height from the platforms make me feel a little better.
