After a dexascan in 2008 because of family with osteoporosis, I was diagnosed with osteopenia, given a supply of Calcium with vitamin D3 and told to come back in three years. Turned up at the doctors three yars later (2011) and was told that NICE had upped the time between scans to 5 years. I actually believed the doctor - I had no reason not to. But he lied as I have recently found out. It was eventually September 2015 when I managed to see a locum who happily organised a scan which gave a T-score of -3.5 for the left femur neck and osteopenia scores for the spine. Anything worse than -2.5 is considered to be osteoporosis.
I was called in to see the original doctor (who at this stage I still trusted) and he told me the diagnosis and prescribed Alendronic Acid with thappropriate cautions and told me that I had no choice but to take the drug or I wouldn't get better. So I began to take the horrible stuff and had several nasty side effects. I eventually began researching on various web-sites and discovered that many people were going it alone using nutrients, vitamins, minerals and exercise , all of which are necessary even if you take the osteoporosis drugs. So I thought, why take the drugs if you get well without them anyway, assuming that you follow the 'natural' route religiously. I even found friends to help me out with suggestions and support and after five months of the drugs, I stopped them. It is almost a year since the last scan and I have never felt so well although I am slowly aging. Some of the biggies were vitamins D3, K2-7 with calcium, magnesium and zinc as the most important supplements. There are around 20 others which I discovered along my route and I am now ready to see if I can find the locum again and get a rescan to make sure that I am still getting better. I never had any fractures or pain but I do exercise three times a week for around 90 mins each time. I include quite a lot of ground impact jumps into this, carefully of course, and I use weights with a stepper. My wife and I also walk around 20 miles a week as well.
Now it's just a case of wait and see.

Thank you Aristotle. I cannot give you suggestions because I was diagnosed with osteoporosis recently with a -2.5 and I'm learning what it is I have to do. Because I have an office job 40+ hours a week, I get very little exercise. I use a pedometer to keep track of my steps and I try to keep raising my goal. Now I will add D3, K2-7 with calcium, magnesium and zinc to my vitamin list.
I believe there are exercises which can be done at a desk. Another strategy you could consider is to get a weighted walking vest and wear that part of some days of the week. The idea is to gradually increase the weights over time and this stimulates osteoblasts to lay down new bone in response to the additional stress of the increased weight.
It's very comfortable and could be worn under a shirt or sweater if you don't want to be seen in public with it on! The reason it's good is you can add very small weights (each is only a couple of ounces) at a time, plus they are distributed over your torso in such a way that they do not stress the neck and spine the way a heavy backpack would.
Further to my previous history post, with assistance from a Canadian doctor I found out how the curative system works at a fairly basic level: You need Calcium because this is amost important constituant of bone. You need vitamin D3 for the calcium to be absorbed into your blood-stream. You need vitamin K2-7 (I used 600 mcg) because this puts markers where the calcium is required and prevents is clogging the blood vessels. You need zinc because this forms the matrix upon which the calcium will be deposited. I also took resveratrol, ubiquinol, boron, and a variety of other supplements including magnesium and turmeric. The last scan I had, aound a couple of years ago, showed that my risk of fracture was zero and I received a call from my doctor who told me he couldn't understand what had happened since no-one that he knew of who was using bisphosphonates had ever been able to cure the condition. I didn't advise my MD of the supplements that I used because I was already aware of his negative opinion using medication that he didn't prescribe.
Aristotle, would you consider making a new post, perhaps with a link to this one, so that all the people who didn't follow this original post three years ago can see it? Your experience is so valuable it is a shame it's not more widely known.
I agree that these posts and any similar should be reposted on a regular basis to spread the word that a cure is feasible. You already know about Kate Rheaume Bleau and her book since it was you who introduced me to it. I Have tried to avoid directly naming the book and author in the same posts, not wishing to cause a repetition of what happened with the Patient site. However, we have a mutual friend who has been using K2-7 etc and has just had a scan but may have to wait four weeks for her results. I am hopeful that she will have a positive outcome, not only because it will be wonderful for her but will also show that my result was not a freak event. If the result is positive and she is well on the way to recovery then I shall retell my story as I told it to you, but with nothing left out and an ongoing end in place. I hope that this will suffice for now.
As this site is less worried about naming or recommending books and treatments I wouldn't worry. If you were attempting to sell something that would be a different matter.
I'm apparently eligible for another DXA scan this fall but I'm thinking I'll wait a bit longer. They may be less inclined to try and cancel on me if I don't seem too keen - they did cancel my second one but I was oblivious and turned up anyway and they fitted me in!

I have been more aware to drink milk now Almond milk is meant to have more calcium
than cows milk which I can drink if Lacfree cowsmilk .Drink soy coconut peas milk and yeah fresh goats milk in a bottle from a Al DI. It depends what leavel u are with Celiac disease my mistake was not making up for it was aware of drop of calcium but the doctor just told to take calcium a day did'nt made me feel it was nothing so I didn't take it all the time . Got osteoporosis in lower back but it was like a pinch thats all. Did a bone densitometry test on me as I was due for one lumbar spine L1-L4 AP projecttion the score is 2.5 Have no idea what that means .The neck is 0.610 g/cm 2 which lies 1.4 standard deviation below the mean of age . Have no idea where I stand if its really bad or what.Only had a pinch in the lower back till I went to the doctor made me feel that I was to going to get really bad for me. So took prolia never felt so terrible pain in the lower back I ever had also pain in different joints head ache . Really feel the ache in the back not sure if its because of the back or the prolia would never take it again even made my teeth feel werid.

I find your story very inspiring, I am 54 and I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis this year after a bad fall and hip fracture last year, had 2 screws put in ,( fracture has completely healed ) I am choosing the natural path after extensive research. At a recent appointment with hospital doctor , he did not seem alarmed at all at my decision and wants me to keep a diary.
It is now some years since my miracle cure and I am still very healthy and enjoying life. One of these days I'm going to find out that I am feeling old but until that happens, I shall continue to enjoy life (I'm 74)!
I read that large doses of K2-7(600) will also clear out deposits in the coronary arteries and since I had already had a small artery scare 12 years ago and was already taking K2-7(100), it seemed logical to give it a try especially since I had received an invitation to try the 600mcg from Nutrizing who were quite happy to talk to me about the research they were doing. They also confirmed that there should not be any problems. I also contacted Dr Kate who also expressed some interest in my unusual progress. I have to admit that I was as surprised as my doctor to find that I was cured after around eight months, and hindsight also gave me time to consider the impact exercises that I did regularly to help my hips, spine and femurs. These were only stepping around 30cm with 15kg weights in either hand and 100 repetitions three times a week for around a year. These must have made some contribution to the overall cure.
My total supplement load was and still is quite hefty but none of the items are special, I just picked up bits of advice from contributors to Patient forums before they kicked me off for sounding too much like a doctor.

The Omega3 fish-oil assists in the absorption of the vitamin K2-7 which is an oil-based vitamin.
Additionally, I eat 5 soft dried prunes and eat a banana and 20 blueberrys daily.
I have continued my regimen well beyond the confirmed cure because I still don't truly know for certain, the cause of my original problem or the cure. I just know that the combination of pills and exercise worked for me, and I do not intend that it should regress!

If you haven't read it, Michael Hollick's, (US endocrinologist) book The Vitamin D Solution, based on his evidence from decades of research into Vitamin D, is worth getting. He tells what doses he prescribes for various conditions. He goes at length into explaining why you are many times more likely to suffer from deficiency than too much D3. He advises exactly what blood test to get. You will easily manage to overlook what could be seen as his naming a product in a way that may bring him a little 'incentive'.
