Hi all, sorry to ask this, but has anyone had stomach discomfort and bowel problems on this medication? I've been on this for about five weeks and have bloated stomach, lower abdo pain and different than normal poo. Any advice/help would be gratefully received.

I recently changed from Amlodipine (Calcium Channel Blocker) to Losartan (angiotensin II receptor blocker) because of acid reflux. Now on 100mg of Losartan daily but it hasn't done much yet to lower my blood pressure. The acid reflux did seem to disappear, but now it's come back. Whether this is a side effect or just that I now have a separate problem with my digestion, I don't know. But I have certainly noticed more bloating and flatulence. With any luck, your side effects may wear off after a few days or weeks, as your body becomes more accustomed to the Losartan.

Thank you for your reply. It's quite debilitating at times. Hopefully will ease soon. The belching and flatulence us also awkward but as you say, see how it goes if not, back to the GP.

I was switched from Losartan for similar reason. Some do not acclimate well to this drug.

How bad was the stomach discomfort?

I did not have your problems with Losartan, but did with previous ones that I tried. I'd go back to gp if it does not settle and try alternative. Separately I do have acid reflux and use omeprazole which may have mitigated those side effects.

Hi there, is it on going or did it go away? My doctor is sending me for an ultrasound Tuesday as she doesn't believe losartan causes stomach problems. Also, is it constant or does it ease as the day goes on? Thanks for replying

Hello Eviedog12, I think your bloating may be related to the Losartan. I have similar symptoms. I started taking Losartan in May... did not take it consistently (missed days here and there) but I am realizing I am bloated with a distended stomach. Its hard to eat....went last week for an ultrasound of the abdomen and gastroenterologist says I am normal with a small benign cyst on my kidney. I started to feel my waistline expand in May but did not pay much attention as i thought I ate a few big meals. Now I am suspecting it may be the Losartan. Bloating is constant and my abdomen does not go back to normal. Going for colonoscopy and endoscopy next month. I think it best to call my doctor next week. I have no abdominal pain and my bathroom habits are normal. I started taking Pepcid, Omeprazole, Tums and a probiotic producing relief but bloating not gone
