Losartan and Ibersartan

Hi all

Just a bit of an update. I am now taking Irbesartan which amazingly I have found ok ref side effects and no readings quite good. However when taking Losartan last year I developed bad headaches which I had for months. I had an accident and cut my head so wasn't sure if that was causing headaches. Had 2 CT scans for brain then MRI for back and neck all fine. As soon as I stopped Losartan didn't have any further problems. This week the same type of headache/neck pain has returned so I am thinking is there a connection with sartans ? Anyone else had this problem please ?

I had a problem with Losartan making me feel weak and dizzy with back and head pain. Turned out it had caused my sodium levels to fall too low. I had to come off them and then everything went back to normal. Have you had your sodium levels checked?

Thanks so much for your reply. I hadn't thought about sodium levels that's interesting will mention to GP next week.

Losartan (and I expect others if the same type) is known for affecting sodium levels so definitely worth checking.

I have to say I didn’t get on with any BP meds. But I’m bad with most drugs including painkillers unfortunately.

Thanks a lot for your response. I have had many BP meds and the GP has said she doesn't know what to do with me now and I will have to stay on Irbesartan. It's really trying feel like I have no where to turn with it all.

hi

I have been on losartan 75mg for over 2 years. I had headaches before, due to high blood pressure but after taking losartan my headaches were gone. Everyone is different and will experience different side affects. Speak to your doctor please.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's all so frustrating isn't it?I have had a very stressful time lately and I think that's what's behind all this. I am having a quiet week away and feel a bit better but I am going to see my GP when home really can't continue like this. I have about labile hypertension which sounds very similar to this. Maybe have a look and see what you think ? Will post again after I see GP.

Thanks again and good luck
