Does anyone else take a beta blocker with their BP meds? I'm on 12.5mg losartan (lowest dose) and the doctor prescribed propranolol as and when to help with my palpitations (could be hormone linked). Reading the pill notes it advises caution with this but the doctor said was ok so i'm not sure what to do! Thanks

I take bisoprolol 20 mg doxazosin 8mg and ramipril 10mg all at the same time in the morning my BP is what you call normal Iam taking these drugs for years side effects not many
thank you that’s helpful
That's interesting. I see you have none of the 'sartens. I am in serious trouble and might need to ask my doctor to follow your dosage. I take 10mg Amlodipine, 16mg Doxazosin (8mg 2ice a day), Candersaten 16mg (8mg 2ice a day), Bisoprolol 1.25mg intermittently and my BP is still high. For the past week I have been getting readings as high as 187/112. Then it will drop to 150/101. But I will say the average is 145/100. I exercise three times a day, maintain a good diet and avoid salt and all that but still it's not controlled. I am at my wits end. I am not overweight either.
I know very well that bisoprolol can be taken up to 40mg per day but it is given not beyond 20mg per day why bisoprolol is being under under utilized and all these SARTENS are being pushed instead I have no idea
Once blood vessels become refractory to certain drugs then there is a need to make those blood vessels responsive again by taking something completely different like guanethidine but only a consultant can do that or old drug like reserpine
I did take atenolol when first diagnosed and was happy on this. Husband also takes and is happy.
I was changed to a different regime on getting to sixty years old as the NICE guidelines changed then.
I take Metoprolol 50 mg extended release and 12,5 mg losartan daily every night and my BP is under control. The Metoprolol was increased from 25 mg and losartan was added after 4 stents in January 2023
Hi - I have taken the beta blocker Propranolol for a long time; several years and over the years the dose has been increased. I initially took ACE Inhibitor Lisinopril but after several years began to experience episodes of Angioedema caused by the Lisinopril. I was switched to the ARB Losartan but had the Angioedema episodes from Losartan also. So, for hypertension I currently take 12.5mg Hydrochlorothiazide each morning, Propranolol 80mg Extended Release 2 times daily in morning and evening, & Hydralazine 50mg 3 times daily. In addition to needing the Propranolol for the high blood pressure, I have Essential Tremor of my hands which is getting worse as I age. Propranolol is often prescribed to help control Essential Tremor. I don’t have any problem with taking Propranolol. Good luck!
I take 2.5 Bisoprolol for palpitations. I used to take them as and when I needed them for a number of years but take them everyday now. For HBP I take Lercanidipine and Losartan 12.5 . I was told beta blockers do not really help with HBP anyway . I just find I’m more tired than I used to be and apparently there’s no problem with the combination I’m on. Couldn’t do without them actually
yes I’m on a beta blocker have been for the last 30 years also take losartin 75 mg
@can I ask? Have you put weight on whilst taking Losartan? I’ve been on Losartan 7 weeks and I E put on 6lbs in that time!
I’ve been on beta blockers for about 24 yrs so it can’t be that.
I take bisoprolol 1.25 Mg Flecainide for AF and losartan 100 mgs and 10mgs amlodipine for hypertension. No interactions with any of them
