Has anyone had any adverse side effects to this diuretic ? I have taken my first tablet today. My GP put me on Amlopodine which gave me itching and flushing after a week. Was then prescribed Lercanipidine which gave me awful indigestion and acid reflux and ended up in A&E on Thursday !

Hoping this will lower my blood pressure without any unwanted side effects!!

Hi Shadynook. Well you gave them a chance and they didn't work - sorry to hear you ended up with awful reflux, it's incredible what reflux can do isn't it - such a nasty complaint.

I don't know if I said this to you before, but these meds affect us all in different ways - what suits one may not suit another. It's best you try them as this might just be the one for you and if it isn't, there are more. I've heard good things about this and I've heard bad things about it (the same with all the others too) but no-one knows until they take them. I really hope they work for you and get your BP under control with minimal side effects if any. Let us know how you get on. xx

Yes it’s trial and error. Thank so much for your reply and I’ll let you know in a few weeks how I’m fairing with the diuretics.

Indapamide lowered my salt levels to the point where I could hardly put one foot in front of the other. Thank Heavens for blood test monitoring so that at least we were able to pinpoint the culprit. However we’re all different and so can respond differently to various medications so hopefully you will be fine. If not, there are numerous blood pressure medications out there to try. Good luck!

What symptoms did you get and how soon after starting them?

Just overall exhaustion especially when trying to go for a walk. I’ve had previous problems with meds so was being monitored regularly and was off Indapamide within a month, with the side effect resolving very quickly.

Well thank you I am so fed up at the moment wish I’d never had to have this problem. I watch what I eat, walk every day, don’t smoke, hardly drink, just an occasional glass of red wine. Must be an hereditary thing, my Mom suffered with hypertension.

I know how you feel! It especially feels so unfair when you try to lead a healthy life. Stay positive and don’t beat yourself up about it - the stress of that won’t help. Time for deep breathing and calm!

Hi , the hospital put me on 2.5G Indapamide and 10mg Amolidopine for my BP. Monitoring my BP for the first 4 weeks twice a day my BP lowered considerably except I had a side effect of constipation which I never had before. After 4 weeks my GP took me off Indapamide and guess what no constipation over last 6 weeks bowel movements back to normal and the biggest surprise was my BP remained the same just taking the Amolidopine. Works differently for us all I’m afraid.

I’ll bear that in mind going forward but it’s all I’m taking. Have you had any side effects with the Amlopodine? I have awful leg itching and flushing.

No side effects for me on Amolidopine.

I took indapamide 2.5mg last year together with amlodipine 5mg. The combination reduced my BP considerably and it took about a month. However, I wasn't feeling too well and when I went for a blood test a month in, I got a call from my GP the same day telling me to stop the indapamide as I had severely low sodium levels, as has been the case with Celtic above. I continued with amlodipine and added losartan and am still on that combination. Indapamide is definitely very effective and fast acting and I hope it works for you.

Careful with any diuretic...I was on Hydrochlorothiazide for 15 + years...now I’m battling kidney disease! Thanks to my dr who never advised me of this! Keep monitoring your gfr and creatine blood levels.

Indapamide gave me strong vertigo and increased Tinnitus. Stopped taking then after 2 days and asked the Doc to pursue a different approach. I had no signs of fluid retention so no reason in my mind to take diuretic. Coffee does that for me LOL.

Combination of Lisinopril and Lercanidipine (replaced Filodipine which didn't agree with me) seems to doing the job with no side effects.

Hi I have been on this tablet 3 months and it takes about a month to work . I had no side effects from it . I am also on lercanidipine 20 mg which does give me indigestion but I take Omeprazole to stop it My blood pressure use to be 170/110 so it is now 130/89 which I good as far as I am concerned

But stick with this tablet and give it a try as I know it will take about a month to work properly

I've been on Indapamide for about a year now and all this time have also been suffering from a chest infection and severe breathlessnes. After some time when my chest wasn't getting better and the mucous I couldn't cough up as it was dry and sticky and just seemed to block my airways, I couldn't get any air in and it was very frightening. I told the Chest nurse I thought the Indapamide was dehydrating me and this was the cause of my chest not clearing up, but she said no it wouldn't be that and wanted me to take this inhaler and that inhaler and the other inhaler. They seemed to make me worse and she assured me that if I didn't take them I would probably end up in hospital. Well I firmly believed the Indapamide was to blame and I stopped taking it, I also stopped the inhalers and my cough went away, my chest doesn't get tight any more and I can breathe. My blood pressure was never sky high and isn't any worse without Indapamide. It also caused very stiff legs and feet and severe cramp in my feet, shins and thighs, also in my arms and hands and terrible Backache. I am not on any other medication I always used to have low BP in the past, but with age creeping up and also having Osteo Arthritis , I was prescribed Naproxen, which can raise your BP and a routine eye test showed that my BP was high and this was the reason for me being put on BP drugs in the first place. I am monitoring my BP now and taking other painkillers for the Arthritis.

I’m glad you are ok now. From my experience all meds cause side effects! You’re VERY lucky if you manage to tolerate one well. Fortunately I had a very sympathetic GP who actually listened to me! I tried every category of BP medication and each one gave me intolerable side effects, even the one I’m on now causes a slight cough but after my ‘journey’ I’m sticking with it. I used to take Naproxen as I have a painful shoulder but I just use Volterol cream now.Oh well…..onwards and upwards eh 😊
