Hi to anyone suffering horrid side effects from their BP medication.
After trying several BP tablets and suffering awful side effects I settled for Lercandipine as my final attempt. However my vertigo became so bad and I suffered awful digestion problems as well as tinnitus. I took Lercandipine for over one year but decided to speak to my GP again as I felt so dizzy and sick after taking my pill (I resorted to taking it at bedtime but my headaches and tinnitus just interrupted my sleep). My GP has now prescribed Indapamide 1.5mg and I have been taking this medication for the past 2wks. I gave the readings taken over this period to my Dr and she said they are excellent and she is very happy with the results. I take my tablet first thing with my breakfast and I do not feel giddy at all and my tinnitus is definitely improved. So to anyone suffering with awful side effects do speak to your GP as there are so many different BP tablets to try .

Thanks for your post Poetry19, I'm glad your BP is now under control and long may it continue to be so. I think your comments will be of interest to others too.
What other meds have you taken? The Indapamide is a diuretic. Did your GP discuss adding potassium, magnesium, etc back into your diet? If not, you'll want to have that discussion...low electrolytes can have serious consequence too.
Good morning. Thank you for your reply to my last post. I have tried Amlodipine, Lisinopril, Losartan and Lercandipine with awful side effects. I am aware of making sure I have plenty of potassium in my diet now that I am taking Indapamide and I have trust in my dr that my yearly BP check, which includes a blood test, will show up any deficiencies. I think a good diet is important anyway and I am always careful what I eat so hopefully I will continue to feel well on this medication. I cannot believe the difference it has made to me so far. My vertigo and tinnitus definitely improved.
I take Indapamide 2.5mg and have been for a year . Like you I had tried others and had awful side effects including swelling to my legs on one type ! I take one in the morning with my breakfast and it seems to keep my BP well controlled with minimal side effects -I was dizzy and had a headache for the first 2 days when I started it and also , weirdly, if they change the generic supply then I get the dizziness/headache for a day and then my body seems to get used to it again .
I feel really well and although I’ve gained half a stone that is probably due to the HRT I started at the same time (or probably eating too many cakes and biscuits)
Now I need to sort out my high cholesterol -lol .
Good luck Poetry19-hope you continue to feel well you your blood pressure is controlled .
Good morning Minniee52 . Thank you for your reply to my post. I am so relieved to find a BP tablet that I don’t have immediate side effects to. I no longer have that awful pressured headache and vertigo I was experiencing. It is so difficult to find a medication we don’t react in some way to. Some of my side effects have been horrendous.
Long may we continue to feel reasonably ok. Weight gain is a problem I think we all suffer from as we get older and less energetic. Grandchildren keep me busy and running around but garden centres and coffee and cake seem to cancel all my good work .
I do hope you will continue to feel well too and enjoy some cakes and biscuits as well as our recommended fruit n veg lol
Good morning Poetry19. I also had those awful pressure headaches and terrible palpitations /racing heart which have all settled down now. I am also very sensitive to any medication so I’m pleased to find something that has minimal side effects .Good luck and enjoy your grandchildren (and coffee and cake -lol)
I've been taking Indapamide for 2 weeks now following a month on Lercanidipine. The side effects from both have been swelling legs/feet which will only get worse as summer approaches. My BP has reduced significantly but I'm still looking for a better option than either of these.
Good morning Roversless. I have tried many different BP meds before finally finding one that suits me. My GP has been brilliant and recommend different medication for me to try when certain types did not suit. Do speak to your GP and in my experience just keep trying different medication until you find one that suits you.Good luck
I am on Amlodipine (for 2years)and have some side effects - some difficult to pin down but I believe they cause or exacerbated the following: weight gain, insomnia, high anxiety levels, depression, itching all over my body … shall I go on? I’m beginning to think calcium channel blockers are not for me and wondered what people think of Losartan or similar or one of the Ace inhibitors?
Hello bonnythecat. We all react to the same medication in such different ways so it’s best that you just try and see which BP tablet suits you with trial and error. My experience was totally different to many of my friends on the same medication and luckily for me I have a wonderful GP who has supported me the whole time in trying to find an ideal solution. Like I said in my earlier post I have tried many different tablets all with awful side effects but I’m so happy now I’m taking Indapamide which seems to suit me very well with no side effects showing over the 2+ wks I have been on this medication. Don’t suffer unnecessarily and do speak with your GP about changing
I too take indapamide, but it's 2.5mg. I also take Lisinopril. Occasionally, especially in the heat of summer, I feel dizzy in the couple of hours after I take them as they "kick in" and I feel my BP is dropping. Drinking more fluid helps a lot, but it is a pain! The good news is my BP averages 115/69. Possibly a bit too low...
The 1.5mg you take is a slow release version. I think that would suit me better. I asked about changing, but the GP said it wouldn't make any difference. I must say I did wonder if it might be more expensive. Having read your experience I will try again.
I worried about electrolyte imbalance being on a diuretic, so I do take a Magnesium supplement too and my AF is better with that.
Hello poetry19 Thank you for your post, I too take lercanidipine 10mg with the side effects you mentioned, some days worse than others, but has an overall negative effects.
Hello Sleepyhollow. I do think you should have a chat with your GP . I truly suffered awful side effects for so long as I had tried other meds too so I kind of gave up but my Dr was wonderful and came up with another alternative which, fingers x, is suiting me so well. There are so many different types of blood pressure tablets available . Good luck, please let me know how you get on.
