Currently taking Olmesartan ( Benicar ) 40mg. and Chlorthalidone ( water pill ) 25mg. Tried adding Amlodipine in the past but it did not agree with me.
Also taking Prednisone for an inflammatory autoimmune disease ( PMR ) which has caused me to gain 25 pounds and this med and weight gain is obviously contributing to the problem but still have to get my pressure down.
Pressure readings are between 160-170/ 90-100.
Any suggestions as to what others have found successful ?

Hi rocketman42. I had to stop Amlodipine too after seven months. It made my lower legs, ankles and feet swell with nasty rash on lower legs. Shame, it was controlling my BP a treat. I have taken most of them over the years with bad side effects from all of them. I understand that there are a couple of new ones out now - don't know what they are yet as I am having to log readings for one week and see nurse/practioner to discuss. Sorry to hear you have PMR, I have RA and I am on Methotrexate and weaning off Prednisalone - on 2 mg at the moment and will reduce to 1 Mg on 12 March. My sister had Giant Cell Temporal Arteritis and PMR, they are all a complete nightmare. Prednisalone will contribute to high BP too. Good luck.
