Good morning everyone,

I am sure it is a coincidence but I have for the last month had an average BP of 129/75 on Amlodipine 10mg tablets

and Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg tablets. ( I measure 3 times a day am , before dinner and before bed) Usually in the Morning it was below 120 /76.

Five days ago I started taking Atorvastatin 20mg tablets and my blood pressure hovers around 140/80 and up to 165/95.

I woke up in the middle of the night and took a reading and it was 145/83.

Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated

Kind regards

Steve (68)

I don’t know, but I’ve a couple of thoughts.

I’d be fascinated to know (just for my own information) if there’s any difference in the averages of morning versus before dinner versus before bed - is there a noticeable difference? As a rule I take mine at roughly the same time, 4 p.m., for consistency.

Did your medical practitioner suggest these very frequent readings to you? When I first bought a BP machine I was advised to just take the readings once a month, unless I thought there was a marked change. The reason I ask is that I wondered if you are worried over the numbers and that in itself was pushing them in an upwards direction?

Am BP was 122/74 before dinner 135/78 and before bed 130/75 on average.

Pharmacist at my surgery wanted me to keep a chart for the first month to make sure I was on the right dosage.

He suggested twice a day but I did 3 as I felt it would be more accurate.

Since the statins the averages are more like 145/85 .

I cant say I am more worried about the numbers now than I was before, although I was happpier when things were closer to 120/75.

Hi, I have been on Bendroflumethiazide, a diuretic, and Amlodipine for many years and not noticed any adverse effects from taking them. I have no experience of Atorvastatin. It sounds like a Statin. I had to stop taking Statins because of side effects. Don't believe the guff when they try to tell that statins have no effect.

I am a very reluctant statin taker, I just have nagging doubts about them.

although, SACB, I read a small research project recently that said that, of the people told they were on statins but were in fact taking a placebo, there were nearly as many side effects. In other words they were expecting side effects so they had them.
