Large bladder

I went to my obgyn. When I got n ultrasound, it showed that my uterus and bladder is enlarged. I was sent to a Urologist. I am getting a scope biopsy done next month. Has anyone had this procedure? I am a little scared. First time being put to sleep for a procedure.

No, I have not had that procedure done but I have been put under for both major surgery and outpatient procedures (upper endoscopy for ulcers) and the one thing I tell people is to ask the doctors (surgeon and the anesthesiologist) to tell you what type of meds they plan to give you for the procedure. I say this because after having what was called a routine laparoscopic appendectomy and likely same day discharge , I was given a completely unnecessary dose of Fentanyl just an hour PRIOR to my surgery to "relax" me before going into the operating room. Fentanyl is an extremely powerful synthetic opioid drug that according to the doctor that created it said should only be given for end-stage cancer pain! They literally woke me up from peaceful sleep to inject this "a little something to relax" me drug but had a completely opposite effect. It immediately caused my head to spin and I started vomiting uncomfortably until they took me into surgery and put under the general anesthesia - I was more worried then than I had ever been for my previous major surgeries. Never before had I been given or needed a drug to relax me before surgery, let alone given a powerful Fentanyl without asking me first. It never occurred to me that doctors would do such a thing especially since I had prior surgery and so I didn't know to ask before hand.

After my surgery and release from hospital 3 days later, I found out that drug manufacturers are known to pay doctor commissions or bonuses for prescribing or administering certain drugs . I am strongly opposed to this practice because I don't think it's ethical or in the patient's best interest.

Ever since then, I tell everyone to communicate with their medical team to say in advance, no Fentanyl and I also say no to allowing medical students to be present during my procedures.

I don't mean to scare you, I just want people to be aware of what doctors may do. Of the 6-8 medical procedures I have had done over 30 year span, it was only the appendix surgery that I was given something that was medically unnecessary - it was also an emergency surgery so I didn't know these doctors. If you're having an outpatient procedures, most likely you will be given lite sedation like I got for my upper endoscopy because the whole procedure took about 15-20 minutes and I was released about an hour later.

Just be informed, ask questions and tell them ahead of time what you do not want. Wishing you all the best🙏

I am so sorry that you went through that. That drug is powerful and killing people left and right. I definitely asked the nurse and anesthesia person what I was being injected with and why. They were amazing. Everything went perfect.
