Overactive bladder

I'm suffering terribly with OAB - both night and day it's getting to be that I'm afraid to go out in day without wearing a pair of "nappy pants", also sometimes wear pad in bed but I'm near the bathroom so not too difficult to reach in time. It means I'm up about every hour so no sleep really. I'm on mirabegron med but doc said I had to give it 4 months to take effect. I'm into the 4th month now and cant say I have any improvement, I have some solifenacin pills left over so I'm now taking one of them at the same time....don't know if this ok and I'm absolutely depressed and miserable . Doctors don't really seem bothered -my age 83? just hoe they never experience!

Sorry for the moan!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a terrible time with the OAB. It's awful when you can't find any relief with the medication. I've recently started the solifenacin with the Vaginal pessary and it's made such a different to my symptoms. It's made it 98% better. I'm not sure which of the two items are working the best, I think it's the solifenacin. I started with the oxybutynin for four or five weeks and my doctor switched me over. Did the solifenacin work for you at all?

Hi, solifenacin and mirabegros both help (abit) so I was thinking maybe both together would be better, but I've still got to check with gp. I'm using up "leftover" solifenacin with mirabegron (on script) Where did you get the pessary if you don't mind my asking?

Hi Foxglove, I know some on this forum do take both mirabegnon and Solifenacin. I know you switched because of the side effects of Solifenacin. I am still taking them, they work for me even with the constipation. Has your GP not referred you so you can get some help from the hospital. I am seeing physio at Basildon and on the list for the nerve treatment. I do have my own tens machine which I use every other day. I am on just 5 mg of Solifenacin but not had the nerve to come off to see if the tens works on its own.

Thanks for reply...I've still got to check with gp (I'm doing an "unofficial combination using "leftover solifenacin with mirabegron. I know compared with a lot of probs. maybe not serous but it does limit life and though the adult nappies good they are uncomfortable and irritate

There I go Another moan!

Not life threatening but your life is restricted. I have just got to being Ok with OAB and constipation. What happens my anxiety rears it’s ugly head and that causes digestive problems. Had that most of my life. But not since 2015. Suddenly it’s back. So I have this now just as the other is better. Hope you get somewhere with your GP. Do ask for referral. So much information can be got from that. Good luck. X

It was prescribed by my doctor. It's called Vagifem Low (comes with applicator). Its 10 microgram estradiol. I used everyday for 14 days and now it's twice a week for maintenance dose.

Hi foxglove , I am under a urologist at Guy’s Hospital , London for an Overactive Bladder , together with Stress Urinary Incontinence and Bladder Outlet Obstruction . I take both Mirabegron and Solifenacin.

They both help and can be taken together.

I take mirabegron just before bed time and it's improved my bladder retention massively. I get up once during the night maximum and only catheterise about 3 times during the day.
