so about a month ago i was getting vaginal infections that cause soreness and itchyness as well as burning to wee. It was put down to a UTI and was given antibiotics.i also had pelvic pain on my right side that came and went like a stitch. It never cleared so I ended up have 3 lots of antibiotics. Every time plus more I have been showing blood in my wee on a dipstick not actually able to see and high white cells. Had a pelvic scan internal and external and nothing wrong with ovaries , kidneys or uterus or bladder.

I’ve now been referred to a urologist and may have a cystoscopy. Does anyone know why you could have blood in the wee on a dipstick test but nothing wrong on scans ? The only other thing is I have polycystic ovaries and don’t get regular periods.

Thank you

Hi Jellycat

I’m in the same position as you and having investigations. Possibly the only difference is that I went into Acute Urinary Retention and was admitted to hospital. Now at home still catheterised a month later

Had CT which they said was clear. Next is the Cystoscopy which is the ‘gold standard’ test.

I’m anxious and concerned as my dad has bladder cancer. Nothing showing in CT but doctor tells me sometimes the growth are small and haven’t invaded the bladder wall. These would be picked up on cystoscopy.

Living with a catheter isn’t easy - especially when it was so unexpected. I’d had severe low back pain and pelvic pain since Christmas, then suddenly couldn’t wee.

I wish you well 😉

Oh no sounds like you’re going through it ! Do you mind me asking how old you are ? I’m only 22 but I’ve also been worried about conditions like bladder cancer however I have read it’s very very rare in people under 40. I wish you a speedy recovery!!

I’m 73 Jellycat. I feel it too. Today I’ve got crippling back and pelvic pain which I gave quite often.

You have age on your side. Try not to worry.

Sincere best wishes x

hi.

I have had blood in my urine ( microscopic) for about 10 years now . I had the cytoscopy and all the usual tests and they found nothing .

I also have had lots of uti and now take a small dose every day at night to ward of infection. Antibiotics are given on a 3 month rotation . So for 3 months I take 100mg if trimethoprim at night followed by 3 months of 250 mg amoxil the 3 months of another one one at night etc . I have now gone a year and no uti it’s wonderful.

If you have to have a cytoscopy try not to worry it’s painless I was in bits when I had mine and it really is nothing to get concerned about . My urologist told me results there and then

The puzzle with me is no uti. No infection which is the usual cause of retention

Wishing you well 😉
