CONSTANT reoccurring UTI'S/IC/Cystitis

Hi, hoping someone on here might have some advice or a similar situation as I don't seem to have much advice from my urologist. I suffer from Interstitial Cystitis, Overactive bladder, stress incontinence & frequent UTIS.

I currently take amitriptyline, mirabegron & solifenacin for my bladder. Amitriptyline helps with bladder cramps and solifenacin and mirabegron have reduced my incontinence and also helped with my frequency and urgency. I'm currently waiting to have a 6 week course of HYACYST Bladder instillations.

The past 6months to 1 year my symptoms have been getting worse including constant and frequent UTIS. I know that alot are probably triggered by having fairly frequent sexual intercourse however I try to be as savvy afterwards to try to avoid a uti. I always urinate after sex and I have been trying to drink as much water as possible but I am getting a uti every month. I have been taking multiple courses of antibiotics, I have recently became resistant to trimethoprim so have been on many courses of Nitrofurantoin instead. I'm due to start nitrofurantoin as a preventative soon but this is my 6th or 7th uti now since January. I seem to clear it with water and antibiotics, cystitis sachets, bi-carb in water and painkillers but then a week or two later another is back. I've been completely fully tested to for all STDS & everything is clear in that department. I know that sex can trigger utis especially in women due to a shorter urethra and an easier to get to entrance for bacteria. I have been also having to use instillagel containing lidocaine for the urethral burning that I am always experiencing. It happens when I am not having intercourse but is always worse afterwards. Does anyone have any other tips, things that have helped, something I can try? I'm at an absolute loss & I'm so fed up. I'm exhausted from all the infections, antibiotics and general pain. I also suffer from fibromyalgia, endometriosis and pcos so it's pretty intense at the moment. I'm avoiding bbubble bath, scented washes and taking sitz baths for the pain. Any other suggestions would be great.

Thankyou in advance ❤💕❤

I’m so sorry you’re struggling with this, I know it’s awful. Following is a list of things to try. Many of them helped me very much.

1. Marshmallow root and leaf tea. I buy it on amazon, the brand I get is Celebration Herbals and I drink 2 cups daily. Don’t drink it burning hot, let it steep for 7 minutes, then cool off a bit.

2. A cup daily of peppermint tea - let it cool a little before drinking.

3. Big teaspoon of honey every day. Honey has many health benefits.

4. But size zero empty glycerin capsules at a health food store or online. Fill them with 1/8 tsp. fresh baking soda and take one every night with a lot of water. Can take twice a day in the beginning. It helps keep the urine more alkaline, so the bladder lining can heal.

5. Avoid acidic foods such as tomatoes, cranberries and cranberry products , all citrus including lemons and lemon water.

6. I take an oil of oregano gel cap every day. There are many good ones available online. One is North American Herb & Spice Brand.

7. Drink large glasses of water at a time. Sipping water during the day doesn’t help.

8.Be sure your partner isn’t using irritating products when he bathes as they will irritate you.

9. Read about oxalates online. Are you eating a diet high in oxalates? That could be contributing to your problem.

These are the things I did and after awhile, the problem went away. If it comes back I will hit it again with all these things.

I hope you find relief soon and a return to good health!

I would advise you get in contact with Professor James Malone Lee. He treats women with chronic UTIs and is very good. Many women whom believe they have IC find out that they really just have a nasty UTI for years. The dipstick tests generally used are really inaccurate. Professor Malone Lee uses specialist testing.

Hi. I would advise you to take a course of probiotics as soon as possible. First after the large amount of antibiotics you stated, this becomes absolutely necessary. Though antibiotics are good and can serve as a cure for UTIs, they destroy the good bacteria that help to boost our immune system, aid digestions and even fight off UTIs. Probiotics will help to restore gut balance and provide the essential amount of healthy bacteria to fight UTIs and support digestion and overall immune system.

Check out Flourish Probiotics by Eu Natural. This is a natural probiotic supplement consisting of healthy, good bacteria that has many health benefits including providing relief from UTIs, fighting harmful bacteria, balancing gut flora and supporting digestion.

Apart from this, I guess you are already aware of the need to stay active, exercise and drink lots of water.

Hi when I was younger I was told by doctor that it was important to treat your partner at the same time as you could keep infecting each other also not to have sex while you had the infection best wishes 😌

s are very like UTIs I can not take the usual anti bs for it any ideas.

I may have missed it. Have you had a cystoscopy to check the bladder? I know there could be irritation in there. I have that going on with me.

Hi, how miserable for you. It's so difficult to get the right support and knowing how to deal with it all. I've resonantly read an amazing book called The Better Bladder book by Wendy Cohan. Loads of information and tips from somebody that has cured her IC. A guide to self care and natural alternatives plus food intolerances and hormones plus infectious disease. Definitely worth a read. Good luck Linda
