Hi All

Did anyone have anemia from aspirin and ticagrelor(blood thinners ). Facing that issue . Not sure if that is due to the blood thinners

I've been borderline anaemic for ten years now, and started to feel tired six weeks after my TAVI, and wondered if my anti-coagulant was to blame. There are a few suggestions online that it could. You don't say which procedure you had, but a new heart valve can lead to anaemia in a small number of cases.

Currently I'm pondering why last Tuesday's blood tests, taken after eight weeks of fatigue, are better than those of March 5, taken after three months of feeling great. I was anaemic on the 5th but am not now, which leaves open the question of what's causing my fatigue.

Thanks for your response and feedback. Last year Had stents in heart due to blockages . Taking aspirin and ticagrelor or Brilinta for almost over a year now. What type of anemia you had . Was it iron deficient? or just anemia of a normal MCV . MCV is lower than normal range then it is usually iron deficient. But in my case , it is not iron deficiency. I think blood thinners can cause GI bleeds which may cause anemia . But I am not sure in my case if that is causing anything. What blood thinners you are on? Appreciate your input

My iron and ferritin levels aren't that bad: 11 and 82 on March 5, when MCV was 94.10. On December 19 the levels were 14.3, not measured and 162, but after that I eased off on ferrous ferritin. The only one of the three measured on April 30 was MCV, of 91.50.

I'm on Clopidogrel anticoagulant.

Ten years ago my ferritin was16.65 😮‍💨😩 after a nasty insect bite and it slowly recovered over the next years. (It was 54 in 2019.) I'm still peeved that my GP assured me that it wasn't Lyme Disease but never told me that various blood levels were abnormal. (I don't think that she knew much about insect bites, and in those days one didn't get to see one's results on-line.) I've been near-anaemic since then.

I have had a long-term problem with anaemia for over 26 years from gastric bleeding. This is managed through Iron tablets. Four years ago I had a mild stroke , caused by undiagnosed AF, and started anticoagulation. It didn’t take long to find that this worsened my bleeding problem, even with the large doses of iron- including IV administered doses. In the end I had a Left atrial appendage occlusion procedure to close off that part of the heart where most blood clots occur. All is good four years on without anticoagulation.

thanks Clagmeister. Glad you are good without anticoagulant. I think these medications fix one thing and break another .
