Blood thinners
I had my first heart attack in 2010 and was put on, amongst other things, clopidogrel which is to help thin the blood. I developed an incredibly itchy scalp which peaked after about 2 to 3 months after starting the medication. My scalp got very itchy with flaky skin. In the end I bought some Polytar shampoo, which is coal tar shampoo that people used to use in the 1970s and 1980s for eczma. It did help reduce the itching. Polytar was taken off the market a few years ago but I believe it is available to buy again from Boots.
Thank you for replying. I will go to Boots and buy some.
Not sure if thinners can cause dry scaly scalp, but yes, I too suffer. I have also tried Poklytar which was good. At the moment, I'm using Nizoral, has helped alot, apply & leave for 5 minutes before rinsing off, seems to be working well. Good luck
Well I am on Apixiban for blood thinning and my lower legs itch like hell. Problem is that if you read the information for all the pills you are on they list just about everything as a possible side effect (just to cover themselves legally). So it is difficult to say what causes what!!
Yes I definitely agree with you about reading all the possible side-effects, you can 'convince' yourself of anything. Also, it's as bad as 'Googling' lol!!!
Yes lm on the same one and l itch all over
Hi Holywellbay. I'm on Warfarin for life after having two Mechanical Valves replaced last September. I itch like mad all over my body. Mentioned it to one of the Anticoagulant Nurses at the INR Clinic once. Was told it is a very common side-effect. Not sure about any of the other Blood Thinners though!
