hi. I think I’ve been lucky with dapa and not noticed any particular side effects. I am tired all the time though but I attribute this to my heart problems. I know Dapa can have some very rare but serious side effects so I’ve familiarised myself with the symptoms. So far, so good though. I hope the back pain and stomach issues are short lived and that you feel better soon. X

If the side effects from any medication show no signs of improving after an initial 'bedding in' period and they are affecting your quality of life then you should discuss this with your GP or prescribing health professional. Certainly back pain is, apparently, a common side effect with Dapaglifozin.

Hi Stamford

I did experience side effects and was taken off it because I just couldn’t tolerate it and I’m suspected to be allergic to it.

Obviously we are all individuals and can have different reactions and tolerance levels. I would echo what Lowerfield_no_more has said and say get in touch with your GP or prescribing health professional if you’ve been on them a while and side effects aren’t settling.

Good luck, hope you start feeling better very soon.

Best wishes

I had to stop taking it after a fortnight as I had appalling pain across my shoulder blades (which took 3 months to shift!). Switched to Empagliflozin with no problems other than constipation…

Hi thanks for replying! Did you stop it straight away or gradual? I've stopped mine for 2 days and asked doc for advice, been on it for 3 weeks

I just stopped it straight away. Didn't have any withdrawal, but then it had only been for around 14 days. Worth talking to your local pharmacist if you can't get hold of any of your cardiac team.

sorry to read you are struggling with it

My husband was given it last year , first 8 weeks saw great improvement in his health but then sadly his body started to reject the drug - stomach cramps, feeling sick, extreme weight loss , bowel issues

Unfortunately it wasn’t for him but for many it is a great drug

Hope they can settle the side effects for you

Just changed to this - 3 days in and nothing so far so fingers crossed.

Hi I’ve been taking Dapa for heart failure since last year October. I did feel a bit rough to start with and then this year it became different. I began to lose weight without trying and I find I feel slightly better than before. My EF as improved also.

I have been on Dapagliflozin for about 18 months and can honestly say together with the other usual meds following my HA 13 years ago I am feeling better than I have for years. Apart from a couple of bouts of penile thrush which was easily relieved with generic version of Canestan capsule I have had no side effect at all. It seems to work well for me and I have not had a single Angina episode. PS it makes your pee frothy!
