Morning allSo here I am again, 8 weeks post op and another setback!
I was prescribed amoxicillin 500mg because I had picked up a cold which left me with a noisy chest and because I had pneumonia in hospital they didn't want to take any chances. I wasn't feeling too bad just a bit painful when I coughed. 4 days on Amoxicillin I feel awful. Nauseous, metallic taste, light headed and jelly legged. Done a small walk yesterday and felt really dizzy, check my BP and it was done to 110/62, it's been 140/72. 20 mins later back to normal.
Anybody had similar on amoxicillin, I seem to be at the drs every week with something else wrong with me.

Hiya, so sorry to hear you’re feeling poorly - as well as recovering from such major surgery.
Not sure if your replacement valve is mechanical and are on Warfarin, but I read recently that antibiotics can affect your I.N.R. Probably best to get it checked when you’re back at the Docs requesting different antibiotics! Hope you feel better soon.
Straight amoxicillin or one of the ones combined with clavulanic acid (Amoclav, Augmentin)?
Amoclav gave me tachycardia, though I don't think that's a common side-effect. (And that was pre-valve-job, so I don't know if I'd still have issues with it or not.)
I've never had trouble with one of the straight amoxicillin ones.
I suggest you discuss your potential side effects with someone, as in pharmacist, your GP or 111. Certainly being nauseous and being dizzy are possible and the latter will make you unfit to drive.
Never had a problem with penicillin in the past and haven't got any of the normal allergic reaction signs, rash, sore throat, difficult breathing etc. The light headed and jelly legs is the worst, it stops from getting out and walking which I haven't done much off because of various separate issues. When I have walked I've done a couple of miles without any problems. Just feel I'm slipping behind in my recovery.
Hi, I'm marked down as allergic to Amoxicillan, with me it really upsets my stomach so hasn't been prescribed for many years. If I need an antibiotic they give me a different one
Amoxicillin is the best antibiotic for chest infection, but antibiotics are never pleasant things to take. I would think it is probably a combination of things why you have been feeling this way. It is still early days from the GA which takes a time to clear from the nervous system, That coupled with infection, antibiotics and other medication you may be taking is a recipe for feeling ill. Blood pressure fluctuates all the time and sometimes mine goes as low as 93/53. Low blood pressure can make you dizzy, but perhaps you overdid it and maybe should rest until antibiotics finish. If you are worried phone 111 and speak to a nurse. Hope you soon feel better. 🥰
Finished amoxicillin on Monday and feeling much better again. Felt able to go for a walk yesterday but but it was so cold and snowing so I spent the day putting logs on the fire, much more fun.
Hi there! I also took Amoxicillin recently, and it worked really well for me with minimal side effects. I understand how frustrating it can be to feel unwell again after surgery. In your case, the side effects you're experiencing, like nausea and dizziness, are not common but can happen. It's important to monitor how you're feeling and speak with your doctor if these symptoms continue. They might recommend adjusting the dosage or trying a different antibiotic. Additionally, make sure to stay hydrated and rest to help your body recover.
