Bisoprolol side effects : Hi all I've... - British Heart Fou...
Bisoprolol side effects
snap I was moved from sectral (acebutol) to Bisoprolol and apixaban in Feb don’t seem to have issues with apixaban apart from bruising more but bisoprolol makes me feel lousy no energy, more tired and no appetite for some strange reason I’ve asked to swap but all I get told is bisoprolol is the golden standard the best ! My heart rate is low too about 50 I was quite active before but everything is such an effort now I’m on 2.5 am and pm
hi. Im also on Bisoprolol, feel exhausted most of the time. I take 2.5 mg in the morning and 2.5mg in the evening. Have just switched to the split dose, still feeling exhausted. Will give it a few weeks then ask GP if there is an alternative. Let us know how you get on.
same here xx
I'm on bisoprolo 2.5 in the morning 2.5 before bed and apixaban I felt a bit light headed for a few weeks when my dosage was increased from 2.5 once a day but things settled down after a while maybe your body just needs more time to adjust good luck
I’ve been on 1.25mg Bisoprolol once a day for just over a year. Just changed to Carvedilol as I was suffering badly from dry eye. No other issues though, HR was dropping as low as 45 overnight and RHR was normally in the 50’s, GP wasn’t concerned when I told them.
I complained about the same side effects and not being able to sleep properly with Bisoprolol to the consultant said just stop taking it then. So I did, and all those side effects almost immediately went. That was 9 years ago. The only thing I take now is the Apixaban. I'm 80 now.
All the best.
Roy
My friend has this and when has an episode of AF takes a pill under the tongue, there are other drugs you can have to control your heart rate so I would either see gp or cardiologist as quality of life is important, you need to be able to enjoy life even if have heart condition
Hi. I take 2.5mg bisoprolol in the morning and 5mg at night. It used to be 5mg in the morning and 2.5mg at night, but I was getting light headed and off balance - couldn't walk in a straight line, plus tired all the time. It's not so bad now, but still get light headed, and off balance at times, and need to nap in the daytime. I was originally prescribed bisoprolol for palpitation attacks, was recently diagnosed with Afib so take the bisoprolol to counteract that too now. For me bisoprolol has given me a lot of problems, but am loathed to stop taking it in case the Afib gets worse or the palpitation attacks come back.Denise
I was put on bisopralol after a heart attack. It made me feel like a to tal zombie. I just wanted to sleep. It dropped my BP and heart rate. I just coudn't function so my GP took me off it. Obviously the alternatives I was offered wouldn't be right for you with a different condition. Try to give it a couple of weeks for side effects to settle down and if it's still as bad, talk to your doctor.
I was the same on 2.5mg once a day. You adjust and it gets better over time. I have started exercising which has been fine, but feel awful the few times that I’ve run.
Hopefully things will improve for you. I wish you well
Yeah I was the same on Bisoprolol even 1.25mg and mine was stopped by the hospital after I’d had a HA - my heart rate was down to high 40’s and felt awful - normal is mid 50’s for me and feel fine at that - talk to your Cardiologist about it as no good if you cannot function despite it’s benefits
I too have been on this for nearly 5 months! Let know the outcome after your meeting with the cardiologist. Thanks
The instructions that come with Bisoprolol say Do not take this if your pulse is less than 60bpm. I was given Bisop after my HA in 2017. My pulse at rest is always below 60 and with Bisop 1.25mg it was in the 40's, even down to 39. I raised this every time I talked to a nurse or doctor but it took 3 and a half years before a doctor said Stop taking it. I wouldn't make the decision to stop it myself as I didn't know if my life depended on it.
Your pulse is also low so I suggest you ask your hospital doc if you should be taking Bisoprolol. It may be that both of us had higher pulses when we were in hospital because of "white coat syndrome" and the concern we feel when hospitalised. I wouldn't ask your GP because they don't like going against hospital doc's. instructions.
