I had a heart attack and stent fitted over Christmas 2022 and have been on a cocktail of drugs since then but feel in good health.
I went for a follow up angioplasty a couple of months ago and it was found that the heart attack had caused permanent damage to my heart (apparently now only 30% efficient) and was prescribed Dapagliflozin.
I can't say I've noticed any real improvement and the side effects of Dapagliflozin are quiet scary. I'm wondering if it is really necessary to help my condition and are the side effect common?

What side effects are you suffering from ? I’ve been on dapa for just over a year now ( plus a cocktail of others ) and can’t say that I’ve noticed anything different since starting dapa.
Likewise been on it for 18 months or so, plus all manner of other meds, I put myself in their hands, and the "scientific" guidance they follow. No adverse side effects with Dapagaflozin except weight loss, which was easily solved by relaxing my eating regime. I had and continued to have EF around 30, the whole cocktail of heart failure meds didn't make a step change to my capabilities but I continued to lead an active life but carefully watched my lifestyle. Had a CRT D fittedin May to resynchronize the timing of the 2 sides of heart to work properly together. This has definitely made a difference to my capabilities. Treatment has been brilliant, and cardio team seem to have a good understanding of the damage and limitations of my heart following 2 stress MRI's over last 3 years.
Hi I’ve been on dapa a year now and had no side affects, but after 3 months I noticed I began to lose weight, a stone, which is a good thing. I think it’s because I kept peeing a lot, getting rid of the fluid retention.
It removes excess glucose from your body hence why they say we must keep down below clean. It’s a diabetic drug but I don’t think it’s used for that on its own.
A doctor put me on the other one, can’t remember it’s name, because I am borderline diabetic, and it didn’t agree with me I became very sick.
I wasn’t too sure about going on dapa because of that reason, but I felt no different when I began it and actually began to feel a bit better once the nuisance peeing started and the fluid was reduced from my body.
I've been on Empagliflozin for about 5 years which is a very similar drug to Dapa. All I will say is I've had quite the ride this last couple of years with blocked arteries, failed bypass, 3 stents, massive blood clots (which damaged my heart to an Ejection Fraction of 35%) but I never actually had a heart attack! Praise God! These 'flozin' drugs do protect the heart. They're designed for diabetics so you could get low blood sugars especially if you skip meals but I've I had no side effects.
Anyway, I had an echo last week and my ejection fraction is back up to 55-60% which is normal for my age. Hearts can recover and drugs prescribed do help. Keep active, eat healthily and keep popping the pills would be my advice!
The only side effect I've experienced is constipation which I can deal with.
At the time of prescription I was told my heart was only 30% effective but I've since upped my exercise and I do feel great.
It was the warnings of gangrene that put me off but having read more online about real life experiences rather than the manufacturers leaflet which I guess has to paint the worst I'm happier to continue taking it. Thanks for the advice
