Has anyone had kidney problems after heart surgery ?

I underwent surgery for a leaky mitral heart valve in September and unfortunately suffered renal failure which meant I was on dialysis, until my kidneys recovered. Has anyone else had the same experience ?

Hi Art-99. Sorry to hear that. I also had both Mitral and Aortic Valves replaced in September last year. To cut a long Story short though, I have just picked up my Repeat Prescription from the Chemist and there is a 'Medication Review' in there to book Blood Tests with the Nurse at the Surgery, one being 'Renal Profile', I think that is for Kidneys, not too sure mind because I do not 'Google' things like that. Find it quite scary.!!! I will ask the Surgery, if and when I can get through. It's permanently busy these days!!

Afternoon Snowflake20

I had my yearly blood test done before Christmas, my kidney function was down and so was my blood count. I am on Bisoprolol, furosemide, Candesartan and aspirin, and have been since my surgery 4 years ago. I am on 40mgs of furosemide so quite high with that and the Candesartan my kidneys do have a job😩 anyway after repeat blood tests for kidney function over the past few months my kidneys have now stabilised😂 have been on folate and iron for the past 4 months and have blood test for the count in a few weeks. Depending on what medication your on they just want to make sure things are ok. Just one of the things we go through after surgery.

Try not to worry, I know easier said than done,

Best wishes Pauline

Thank you Pauline. Sorry it is only now I'm getting back to you but I had a really busy day yesterday and just didn't have any time to come back on here. Finally managed to get through to the Surgery, about half 5 last night. Booked Tests for 7th April. I'm not particularly worried about them, I know they are only doing what they have to but am also awaiting a Letter or Call from the Surgeon to go to see him about fixing my Sternum or whatever he is going to do, I don't know. I am in considerable pain with it at the moment though I do know that much lol!!! It just seems one thing after the other lately. I'm sure you know what I mean. 💘

Hope they get your sternum problem sorted. Being in pain must be terrible for you. Fingers crossed that you have contact in the next couple of weeks. Blood tests and some hiccups par for the course 😂

Take good care Pauline

Thank you SO much Pauline. That's very kind of you. I certainly hope they do too. Just another 'Waiting Game' again!! x
