Surgery after heart attack
Hi Picass , a friend of mine had a knee replacement after having a h/a 2 years before no problems at all , your medication will be taken in to account, and having had the same operation 3 years ago you will really feel the benefit, good luck.
The recovery is supposed to be really painful
Work with staff to get your pain management cocktail just right before you leave hospital. Ice and elevate your op leg - ice is a natural pain killer and will reduce the swelling that causes pain.
Many patients report that their pre-op pain is much worse than post op. If you need more specific information on joint replacement pre and post op plug BoneSmart into any search engine. Lots of info and a forum for joint replacement patients.
Just be sure and tell your surgeon what medication you are taking and how much. They will advise you on how it all fits with your pain management meds. You won't regret this surgery - it's life changing! All the best!
I asked a question about this for a friend a few months ago and a number of people had had surgery some months post bypass. In fact I became the one having surgery five months after my bypass. Before my operation my surgeon did check with the cardiologist who did my bypass and the anaesthetist involved. I was out for over an hour and the only difference from the bypass was slight nausea which I had not had. I have not posted about my experience in detail so far as I had an unrelated infection that saw me in another hospital (via GP and &E) a week later, which I felt was due to premature discharge!
A friend's father has a hip replacement a few moths after heart surgery. Again a good outcome but he had an epidural as it was classed as less risk than a full anaesthetic considering the heart issues and that he had had chemo a few years previously. I had an epidural to fix a broken femur and I think it is a good option if you have the right mindset.
