So 5 years ago before any heart trouble i was a judo coach and badly dislocated my left shoulder requiring surgery. I had a procedure called acromioclavicular joint stabilisation with lockdown.

Last Monday 23rd November i woke up took off my cpap and got out of bed with excruciating pain in my shoulder, it had been aching due to redecorating so we could have space to work from home so i thought it related and took painkillers. Thursday evening i couldn’t take it any more and phoned 111 for advice, they were initially keen for me to go to A&E but had to wait for a callback from a clinician, i duly received the call and was advised against going to A&E (as that was for emergencies) but to speak to my GP. Friday morning I call and make an appointment for a telephone consultation with a doctor at my surgery, he basically said it was daft to call him, clearly I needed an X-ray go to A&E and say he sent me.

So my wife drove me there and i went in by myself, took 75 minutes to get triaged but after that i saw a nurse within half an hour had an X-ray and was back in the waiting in under 15minutes. I went in to see the nurse there and also 2 doctors both confirming that the titanium screw used to repair my shoulder had worn the clavicle and it had snapped either side of it, hence the pain. A sling to stabilise and referral back to the original consultant who did the repair and i was on my way home.

Friday evening i started feeling left sided chest pain, ignored it at first as being indigestion but by 11 i was in bed and no better, took 2 doses of gtn and waited 10 mins, still no improvement so another 2 gtn sprays and a 300mg aspirin and a call to 999. The operator seemed reluctant to send an ambulance but when my wife said chest pain, microvascular angina patient suddenly there was an ambulance outside the door. Apparently there was also a first responder but the ambulance arrived at the same time

I was duly whisked off to hospital alone had bloods, ecgs, xrays and more bloods.

Turned out to be a nasty chest infection but also low potassium levels ( i think due to a change from amlodipine: swollen ankles to indapimide) so now on antibiotics and cocodomol for pain and just finished vitamin k supplements. Got an appointment at the fracture clinic next week.

Sorry for the rather long post, just needed to offload it all...

Oh goodness Bassman you have been through the mill! Hopefully now that’s out of the way things will settle down for you and your wife.

Best wishes to you both.
