COVID safe hospitals
Dear Kingsnorth
I had surgery 2nd May. 2020. The pandemic was roaring especially in London. I went to Cromwell, london.
Yes i felt safe. No one, absolutely no one could enter the hospital without tests etc. there was a guard on the main entrance.
It was 11 days away from the crowds. Very nice too .
I didnt really have a choice. I had weeks to live. As fast as my consultants found a slot, then the slot was closed.
Being out of circularization for a few months actually passed the pandemic time.
The bad news is that all physio etc was closed.
Had i waited, then Basildon re opened but how far down the list would i have been ?
Thank you for reply that has put my mind at rest. Did you have to drive to the hospital I’m in Kent and really don’t want to get on a train as I’m high risk re covid apart from my age (nearly 70) l have a very dodgy immune system
I got a taxi to the hospital. To get home I paid for a private ambulance. I was not fit to travel on my own let alone drive, The journey into London from here in Essex is bad, so the taxi diver earned his keep and the ambulances whizz through everything.
I've had one urgent surgery, three urgent non surgical procedures and numerous outpatient appts during both lockdowns and I felt far safer in hospital than walking round Tesco ! I've had 5 pre appt covid tests and my hospital is taking all the precautions so I have no worries about attending.
Hi, I had my surgery mid october. The hospital was very safe, they test everone weekly in there and if it it planned surgery you will have a test before you go. (a week in my case - then isolate at home) In my hospital they wont allow visitors (friends or family) I felt safer in there than tescos HTH
Thank you

I had cardioversion in mid September and have an eye operation the week after next. I've had several eye appountments since March in outpatients and felt extremely safe the whole time. I was an in-patient for six days in my local hispital in late July and, again, felt very safe. As Blackcat said, it was good to be out of the crowds and actually have some company. You will, I am sure, be fine and every precaution will be taken. I had a Covid test 3 days before my cardioversion and will have one next week before my eye procedure. As for transport, the hospital can arrange free ambulance or taxi return for you. Good luck: you will be fine.
Hi I had a heart transplant in the golden jubilee in clydebank near Glasgow on the 26th of July, it is a covid free hospital, spotless all the staff took every precaution necessary, I felt very safe pre and post operation, all my clinic appointments have all been carried out face to face, every safety measure is taken
Hi kingsnorth. I volunteer at my local hospital and wouldn't hesitate to recommend you go ahead with surgery.
