Hi guys I tested positive for covid 5 days ago after returning from a holiday in Italy and have been from time to time been experiencing shortness of breath and chest tightness. On a couple of occasions had to use my gtn spray. I do have heart history 2 heart attacks 7 stents and atrial fibrillation. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this apart from the usual covid symptoms. I must also add that I am not a very good patient and do keep trying to do my daily tasks as normal,I am 68 and don't like sitting about my wife keeps telling me. Thank you.

Covid chest tightness.
Hello
Covid can leave you with chest tightness for a while but I would get checked out as even without heart conditions you want to make sure it has not gone on your chest
You also do need to be a good patient and rest your wife is right as we wifes usually are so listen to her
Hope you get checked out and let us know how you get on x
Hi, I hope you got the antivirals with your heart history.I got covid 6 weeks ago, had antivirals which stopped it getting worse. However, many symptoms have remained and it now looks like I have long covid. I have headaches, dizziness, nausea and my BP is sometimes dropping too low when I stand up, as well as my heart rate going too fast even when I'm barely doing anything. It makes me feel really off and short of breath. It definitely can affect the autonomic nervous system, having effects on BP, HR etc.
I'm basically resting and only able to do things for about 5-10mins at a time. Then I'm exhausted and have a headache. I've also been getting pins and needles in my hands and my head is overly sensitive to noise and tv (lots of movement)
I'm seeing my cardiologist next week. I think he's going to need to increase some of my meds to get things back under control.
I'm not sure what's going to happen, but I feel pretty off colour. I don't think the gp knows what to do next either.
Go and get checked out, best of luck!
Covid can definitely affect your chest - it can also damage it permanently when you have a virus or other infection which affects your lungs (colds, flu, covid, pneumonia) it is wise to reduce your activity because your breathing efficiency can be reduced (giving symptoms of a tight chest, breathless etc) and this also means that your heart struggles to get enough oxygen to keep itself and the rest of you going - this can also cause chest tightness etc
so while you have colds, flu or covid you should be taking it easy to give your heart and lungs a chance to keep up
it might also be wise to contact your GP about anti-viral treatment, but they are unlikely to want to actually see you (due to risk of you passing on covid) and it may be too late to start the treatment
Concerning antivirals for Covid, I'm reasonably sure that they are only effective if you take them in the first few days of your Covid outbreak. I was prescribed them for my last Covid outbreak and if I remember the doctor wanted to know how long I had Covid for as I think she said they work the best if its been less than 5 days with Covid.
