Hi I was diagnosed with Behçet's in 1981, very rare then and no info anywhere, so much better now access to the Internet and groups does help cope. At the moment I have severe water retention in both feet and always feel dehydrated does anyone else have these symptoms?

Besides the typical causes of edema (heart, kidney, liver, vein disease, pregnancy, PMS), some medication can trigger edema. For me, prednisone can cause pitting edema that starts in my feet and travels all the way up to my face.

Actually just seems to be the opposite, I've been on Aziathiprine for quite a number of years then a year ago my white blood cells started dipping too low so I was on them off them for 10 months each time I went back on them my cells would dip again. Eventually a decision was taken for me to be taken off them for good and at present on a very low count methotrexate and pain patches. Pain management free but everything else all to pot lol. Thank you so much for your answer so nice to know there's others out there. When I was diagnosed on 1981 was only one of half a dozen registered with BD.

I too had severe water retention in my legs and feet, and after research found that one of the side effects of amitriptyline was water retention. so I made the decision to wean off them and in 2 months lost over 2 stone,Most of it water. I have since also cut down on salt intake which has also helped. It sounds silly too that the more water you drink the less you retain

Hi Joshua,

Yes I suffer from this regularly. I have been prescribed frusamide to help. If it is really bad, sit with your feet higher than waist for as long as possible. It helps me!

Thank you all for your replies, the fact that this isn't all in my mind is enough to make me feel somewhat better lol.

As for having my feet higher than me heart, yes this works great and some nights when it gets me down a little out come the boxes & extra pillows and a dressing gown wrapped around the lot and away I go, a bit hard on the back tho it is I do persevere. My husbands laughter at the state of me and the bed does of course lighten the whole darn thing, The only thing after not too a good a nights sleep the swelling is back up to it's norm by mid morning lol.

Thank you again xx

Exactly the same with just one little addition. My OH makes me put the pouf on the sofa - I am going to remain politically correct her -and lie with my feet up on that. It works brilliantly but, like you, once I'm up and about I start filling with water again. A bit like a hot water bottle.
