Hi Sam

Sorry you are suffering so much especially at this time of year.....always seems worse when we should be enjoying ourselves. We just have to put on a brave face for the sake of our friends and families and know that this flare will pass. This is when we have to dig deep and get through.......and you will, believe me. Keep fighting and don't let this horrible disease win out.

Wishing you better health In the New Year and lots more smiles and laughter.

Billi x

Hi Sam,

Not a good way for you to start 2014! Headaches was one of the things that I suffered really badly with. Like yourself I would have them for days on end, and nothing much made any difference.

After having MRI scans and a stay in hospital then trying a few different medications I now take Topiramate daily along with Sumatriptan if I do get a headache start. It means having to take yet another 2 pills a day, but it is a small price to pay if I can keep my headaches under control.

I would see your G.P or consultant and see if there is anything they can pin a cause for your headaches on. There are lots of different treatments available so don't go on suffering Hun x

Over the Christmas break I have been quite poorly too. Managed to go into work for a few hours today and everyone was moaning about how much weight they had put on. I managed to loose half a stone, so just laughed along with them so I didn't cry.

Keep your spirits up, new year, new challenges. Big hugs Clare x x

Hello there Sam. I know exactly how you feel. For 12 years I dealt with severe headaches that lasted over a week which meant having to keep curtains closed and wear eye shades that people get for travelling on long haul aircraft.

The meds I was being prescribed all that time were useless but as I'd been misdiagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, my headaches were not taken seriously.

I now know that these headaches are called "primary headache" in relation to Behçet's disease an your GP can prescribe you medication for treating Migraines.

There is a BSS website article you could show your GP at this web address.... tinyurl.com/pl43jcw

At first I was prescribed Pizotifen - mentioned in this article but I'm about to change as I've suffered side effects.

I still wake up with a pounding headache some days and if I'm put under stress, a serious headache starts rapidly but the meds I take force it back in its box....

Hope this is of use to you and best of luck with your GP.

Stephen.

Thank you everyone , I don't normally moan , but after spending my Christmas and new year in hospital I was feeling sorry for myself , I missed out on a great time to spend with my 6 children and trying to hold down my new job is proving to be harder then I thought , I do home care and know there is people worse then me out there but every now and again I really hate this illness with a passion , thank you all for your kind words x

Hi Sam, Being able to have a moan and let your feelings out with people who suffer with the same illness as you, is one of the benefits of this site. No need to apologise Hun x. It is alright to moan when you feel sorry for yourself sometimes x x. Being poorly and in hospital is bad enough on it's own, but not being at home with your children over Christmas and New Year is as a Mum myself unimaginable!!

I can totally relate to how you feel about being ill and keeping a new job down though. I started a new job last January and was in Hospital in March, so off work for a while. I did worry that I might not get the full contract as my probation was 3 months. Thankfully my company have been really good.

You take care, hugs Clare x x

I suffer from the same problem, though to a far less debilitating degree now that I have finally found a medication that works fairly well for me. A year ago, a neurologist started me on something called CaffErgot (just a specially compounded Caffeine / Ergotamine formulation), that is particularly effective in keeping them from worsening, or staying for several days, for me. I couldn't get my refill before a recent vacation and I had a headache for nearly 10 days, so I know they make my life more bearable now! Finding a medication that works for you, and doesn't sedate you (ideally) is priceless. This does that god me - works for some, not everyone. But hang in there, and don't give up trying until you find the one that works for you! Hugs

I really appreciated the article link posted in reply to this post by the way. :-)
