Hello,

Yes I often have high readings on my liver function tests as well. My doctors don't always become too concerned by it, although I do worry sometimes because I know its not normal to have elevated liver enzymes. I also have another test called "LDH" which shows active tissue damage/ inflammation in the body that is always high, and sometimes it will double in a short amount of time. I have this monitored quite frequently and was also checked for Lymphoma (because this is a common cause of high LDH levels), but it was all ok. My doctor tries to reasure me that this is just a "normal" course of Behcet's, to have elevated bloodwork, especially with the strong biologic meds I am on. I think in your case, I would talk to your doctor about your concerns and find out if any other tests are coming out abnormal. It could just be that it will take a while for them to return to normal as many of the meds build-up in the body and take a while to fully clear from your system-- but either way, I would share your concerns with your doctor.

You are very welcome Hugh. I have to agree with you about everyone being so nice and supportive.

It really does help to have a place to come where others know and truly understand what you are going through. Even though many of us might have different manifestations of the disease-- we all still know what it is like to live with this awful and extremely rare illness. Before finding this site, I felt so completely lost, alone, and honestly very overwhelmed and scared about everything-- I wasn't even able to talk to my doctor about things because he doesn't know much about Behcet's nor does he have any other patients with it; I was also told that I am the only known case of behcet's in my entire province-- neither of which offered me much hope. But I feel so much more at ease now after finding this support site.

Hope things are going well with you and that you had an ok appointment (as well as they can with this disease!) :)

Yes mine go up and down a lot.

They can take a while to go down after stopping medication and sometimes it is linked to the behects activity.

I had really high test results about a year ago [in the high 200's] and the Consultant rang me at home to stop all my medications immediately and go to A&E to have a scan. All was o.k except for a fatty liver which most peope have at my age [apparently]....the bloodtests took over 6 months to come down.

My neuro was the one who had been monitoring the blood tests every month, but it took another Consultant in another hospital to flag it up......I find some doctors are quite on the ball with blood tests results and others aren't so it would be a good idea to discuss it with your doctor.

Mine are high when flaring - due to the inflammation and vasculitis in liver.
