Bad odor and vaginally dryness whilst having the copper coil

Hi,

I had the copper coil fitted in February 2019 (after have a little girl). The first few months of having it where completely fine.

However I am now having the following issues:

Vaginally dryness which is causing pain after sexual intercourse

Increase in discharge and bad odor some days it may smell like metal other it could have a fishy smell to it.

What would people recommend for me to do?

Hi it seems like you might have thrush or bv which are both quite common after having the coil. But do seek medical advise. I have had both after regular intervals but never seemed to experience this before. I have had the coil in for over 3 years now and only recently experienced bad odour and dryness. The doctor will advise you to have a swab test which will then come back showing which of the above you might have. Antibiotic coure should settle it. These are normal bacterias that live down there but when triggered can result in thrush or bv. I would advise you to contact your gp and take it from there. Good luck ...

Agree with female 77 these sounds like symptoms of BV, which is slightly more common in women with the IUD or IUS. The "dryness " may be a different issue , perhaps candida, so a swab from a GP or a sexual health unit would help. There are over the counter BV kits but they are expensive , and at the end of the day in the UK a Dr needs to prescribe the treatment. So questionable whether its worth it .

I had this odour, its BV, the perscribed gel didnt work, the pill antibiotic did but only for a week or so then it came back.
