Hi everyone. I have been on various pills over the years and the uncomfortable side effects I had is really bad loss of libido and vaginal dryness.

I'm looking into getting a coil and was wondering if anyone has experienced loss of libido or vaginal dryness while having IUD or IUS?

I'm aware it an vary from person to person but it would be good to know what other's experiences was.

Thank you x

I had my coil in for a day,I didn't really want it in the 1st place and felt like I was pressured into having it.

Please please read a lot of info before you have it, a lot if woman it has ruined their life while having the mirena coil in.

Some women are fine with it,but please investigate it well before you decide.

Best wishes

Hi, I'm just wondering what you mean by it ruined people's lives? I've been taking hormonal contraception since I was 16 I'm now 29 and I'm starting to think the copper coil will b the best option for me as it doesn't release any hormones

Please Google "mirena coil daily mail" and other bits that come up on Google drop down list too.

For me it was done last minute,I wasn't told of the risks or anything, only the benefits I may get, though after reading lots of bits,I'm not sure there are any/many.

Take care

Thank you for your comments. I've researched a lot and I'm still happy to go ahead with it. I'm leaning more towards the copper coil as the hormone free option but I'm also considering the Mirena. I found a lot of information good and bad on both but there is nothing I can see regarding the dryness and libido which is rarely mentioned even with other methods.

I'm sorry about your experience. It's awful how so many doctors don't even try to discuss the risks with their patients and push for this treatment.

I'm quite lucky and my doctor is happy to talk about everything with me and not pushing anything at all

Hi Lollyne, sorry if this is too late to help with your decision but just wanted to say I got the copper coil in my late 20s and quite honestly it’s changed my life, I love it and can’t imagine going back to any other method.

I switched because I felt I increasingly wasn’t in control of my body after being on various pills for about 10 yrs - I was constantly moody, swollen and tender boobs all the time and I gained weight I couldn’t lose. Copper coil has put me back in the drivers seat and I absolutely love that I don’t think about contraception anymore. It’s just there doing it’s thing all the time and I don’t think about it at all.

It is true, my periods are way heavier and more painful - sometimes I even get some ovulation pains - but I feel I can manage the pain and bleeding by taking a few painkillers or wearing heavier tampon - on the pill there’s nothing I can do to stop my hormones being out of balance!

Since you mention it, I do like to use lube but I don’t consider vaginal dryness to be a problem I suffer from.

Overall I’d really recommend giving the copper coil a go - it’s not for everyone but for me the benefits out weigh the cons especially when it lasts for so long, is immediately effective and reversible.

Best of luck,
