Hi!
My name is Agnese and I'm 22 years old.
I want to start saying that I'v been suffering of very heavy periods since I was 13 years old, that usually lasts up to 7/8 days per month and this caused me to suffer of anaemia.
Years ago I tried the Yaz pill and I had really bad side effects including severe mood swings, acne and weight gain so I decided to interrupt it after about 6 months.
I’m really not a big fan of hormones and I really wanted to get the Copper coil fitted, but because of my heavy period I couldn’t go for that option.
So in April 2016 I got the Mirena coil fitted and for about three months I had my period non stop.
My period was less in terms of quantity but the duration increased.
I have to say I’m really happy with it because I haven’t got any side effects like mood swings, acne etc but the duration of my period is driving me insane!
Today is been a year that I got the coil fitted and I still get two weeks of period every month when it was supposed to stop me from bleeding altogether!
Many gynecologist told me to wait 6 to12 months to see if my period would adjust to normal duration. So after been waiting patiently for a year for my body to adjust to the coil I still get my period for two weeks every month.
A week ago I saw a gynecologist in Rome that prescribed me Progeffik to be taken from the 11th day of my period to the 21st for three months, to see if my period will stop.
Progeffik has progesterone inside that is also the main and only hormone active in the Mirena coil so I don’t really understand why she would tell me to take it.
Also, as I mentioned above I’m not a big fan of hormones so this option wasn’t really appealing to me.
Do you think there could be something else I could try to make my period be of normal duration with the Mirena coil?
If not, do you think I should switch to another contraceptive method?
If so, do you know of any contraceptive methods that won’t cause me bad mood swings?
looking forward to be hearing from you!!!
Thank you in advance!
Agnese
