Good morning

My husband has Cerebellar ataxia with gene ANO10. Earlier this year he had urin infection and ended up retaining urin and having catheter for 6 months. He was having lots of infections due to the catheter. So every time he had the infection his mobility was considerably reduced. As soon as he was on antibiotics his walk with the frame would improve. Now he has no catheter and no infection his mobility suddenly reduced. His legs become wobbly and can’t put any weight on them. He just crumbles down after a few draggy steps. He is ok otherwise. The doctor said it could be due to constipation which he is experiencing at the moment. He is also doing some blood tests to rule out any other infection. Has anyone experienced this. I would appreciate some feedback please. Thank you

Kuldip

🙂 ANO10 is linked to SCAR10..this is a Recessive ataxia and rare.

Bladder and bowel problems are known to be linked to this diagnosis but..this doesn’t mean it affects everyone. Your husband’s Neurologist is the best person to give reliable information.

Catheters are notorious for causing infection, and urinary infections can cause confusion. I hope results of further tests are helpful.

After any infection/illness there can seem to be a setback in symptoms, things are rarely as good as they had been, I speak from experience 🙂 It’s possible your husband could benefit from Physio advice..your GP could make a referral.
