Yesterday I was looking for something In the back of the bottom cupboard so I scooted down. I couldn't get back up, luckily my daughters was here and she helped me, has this happened to anyone else? Are there any exercises to strengthen the legs.

Dear Maridale, I do sit and stand exercise, 20 times each day. Sit on the edge of a sturdy chair. Without using your hands (I cross my arms in front of my chest) slowly stand up from a seated position and then slowly sit back down again. Do this 20 times each day. You can also find exercises online. Just Google 'exercises for strength'. You can even Google 'handicapped exercises for strength'. I do exercise for strength AND balance, as my balance is REALLY compromised! Good luck..., ;o)

I believe taking omega 3 fish oil helps me stay flexible and is good for your joints..

I would see a physio for evaluation before starting exercise. depending on where you are it may be easier or difficult to find one with experience with ataxia patients. I read on here a lot about people with ataxia having weak legs. I've been doing some exercises for the past few months that have greatly improved my leg strength. if nothing else, perhaps you could start with stretches.

Hi Maridale. There is a clinic which specialises in physio for those with neurological conditions. If you can get there, they will assess you and give advice etc. I havent used them myself, yet, but considering going. I believe it is free, as they are a charity. Their website is; nmcentre.com/

They also offer help in other areas which may be of interest.

GOOD LUCK

Steve

Hi Jaqui. Might be worth a phone call to them as they seem to have contacts around the country and may be able to recommend someone nearer to you. Just a thought.

GOOD LUCK
