Vitamins good or bad? : Hi my husband takes... - Ataxia UK
Vitamins good or bad?
To be honest I have taken a load of vitamins (still do in case!?) and supplements in the past and none seem to help me but we are all so different. I found this site and it quite good to check if they interfer with stuff you already take.

Be careful.
Turmeric helps with my cramp.
Ubiquinol (new CoQ10) helps some - 600 I think??
Some hope that the sweetener trehalose helps (many posts in the past) I find it just upsets my tummy x
I take vit D. Mine was tested and found to be vittually non existant. Had to have a course of high dose vit d. Now take a maintenance dose. Also have multi vits prescribed which I take if I remember and magnesium. The only ddifference I saw was with the fatigue when I had the vit d. Excuse typing errors
I take a multi-viamin, fish oil caps (2), vitamin-D and CoQ10 (300 mg)-neurologist wants me to take 600 mg daily, but I haven't, as it's rather expensive. I think the CoQ10 is somewhat helpful, although I've been taking it for years (as well as the other things I mentioned), so who really knows! My best to you...,;o)
I read an article about q10 and I have much more energy with it, they said how it stabilizes ataxia, my sister who is one year older then me takes nothing and is really bad but in six years I am just using a walker outside. We need Vitamin D, B6, 12, and Omega fish oil's, which I take and I have researched about them all.
I get all my vitamins from Amazon and it is the cheapest and they come the next day.
Thank you all for your advice seems like it may help so worth a shot to see if it helps
I've found that supplements in pill form are half as effective as eating a diet that has had some effort put in to researching vitamins and minerals.
Hi rankin1st,
Our Research team recommend a variety of ways to improve vitamin D:
- have 15 minutes minimum of sunlight a day (best around midday) if you can
- eat a vitamin D-rich diet when possible. To make this more effective, complement vitamin D-rich foods with calcium-rich foods: they are both absorbed more successfully when consumed together. Milk-replacement drinks such as almond milk and aoya milk are very rich in both
- taking supplements for Vitamin D is a good idea even on top of diet, because it is harder to improve a vitamin D deficiency through diet alone than it is for other deficiencies.
I hope that helps!
