Hey everyone, hope we are all well. I am a regular on here and thank everyone who has took the time to comment on my previous posts. Firstly, my mum has agreed to radiotherapy and is going for the 20 sessions. She is determined to face this head on....
On another note, since chemo, mum has been really poorly. Has had neutropenia sepsis, a blood transfusion and sodium supplements. She has had a cough for 8 weeks now and it's confirmed a bacteria infection, which I know can be caused by the chemo. She is now on antibiotics again. If these don't work, I am going to push for her to go into hospital and have a IV of antibiotics.
Her haemoglobin has remained low and is slightly anaemic, which again is common. Following chemo, can you take iron supplements? Anything she can have to boost her levels. Anyone else been through this? Any advice?
My mum is just so low at the moment. I live two hours away and she is full of a cold now.....the oncologist wants to do another blood transfusion, which I am concerned about.
Thank you for reading
God bless.

A blood transfusion will certainly help with low HB and even though your 2 hours away just let your mum know you are there for to support her in every way possible... Hopefully you can make visits of a weekend . Bring some good books to read jigsaw puzzles.. crossword books 📚..Wishing you both well 😘 take care of you also ❤️
Hope your mum is in a better place soon after treatment and gets some energy back from the transfusion. It's nice to know she has someone who cares for her wellbeing.
I can't help you on medical matters, but just sending lots of good wishes. I know my mother in law was really knocked out by chemo, but she did recover in a reasonable time. Hope your mum is starting to feel rather better. xxx
I would give the helpline a call regarding the iron after chemo and any other advice on supplements & going ahead with the transfusion. 0300 222 5800 uk office hours.
I also agree that a transfusion would be very important to raise her HB in the safest fastest way, it takes ages to rebuild otherwise. She needs everything they can offer to rebuild her stamina and immune system which has been knocked for six. Hopefully the antibiotic mum's been prescribed is a decent one for a decent length of time.
Hi, I have only had chemo once, the rest has been BCG treatment. I am low on haemoglobin and take iron tablets every day, at times Follic Acid also. I am still haemoglobin I am still anaemic, how much I am unsure. I think for sure you mum will be better with radiotherapy - I have had two friends on radiotherapy and for both it worked - chemo is toxic and lots of side effects, I know radiotherapy has some, still prefeer that to Chemo.
