My mum has previously had chemo and now started radiotherapy for lung cancer. She also has severe COPD. She coughs like every 5 mins which makes her cough up thick green sputum each time. I appreciate there is a cough with COPD but should it be like this? She has an inhaler once a day, red and grey in colour which helps a little bit. She has also taken carbocisteine which doesn't really help. I think she has had a bacterial infection due to chemo and hasn't had the right antibiotics, due to allergies. She has no temperature or anything.
Could this be the COPD? Is it a continual infection? Just at a dead end as to how I can help with the cough......if anything....
Thank you for reading.

Hi, I'm no expert and have not had any experience with anyone with lung cancer, but I would say get your mum to go to the GP or speak to someone when she has her next radiotherapy and have it checked out. It may be an infection.
Id get her to put a specimen in+ talk to Dr.it may also be that she needs dose of carbocysteine adjusting - it should thin mucous, making it easier to cough up.its prob worth her trying lung clearance techniques, giving time to do it at least morn & evening - look at aluk website, huffing technique,acbt- active cycle of breathing.once she does this, she may cough less.
Your mum has "severe COPD" and "Lung Cancer" - Chemo can weakon a persons imune system. I am not sure this is the case. but you could ask your GP.
She is on radiotherapy for her lung cancer - I think when she goes for her next radiotherapy session. you could ask if the Cough every few minutes could caused by a reaction cause by her radiotherapy .
Failing that - I believe talking to her GP and see what she/he thinks and above all get her some treatment for that cought and that green mucus. Good luck.
in addition to infections bacterial, viral and fungal coughs can also be down to allergic reaction or anxiety. My persistent cough to many years was eventually diagnosed to excess stomach acid due to hiatus hernia
So sorry to hear your mum is going through chemo and wish her well. Regarding the cough try giving the help line a call they may be able to advise 0300 222 5800 x
