In April this year, I was prescribed Trelegy after an exacerbation that resulted in respiratory failure. I have read that people who are on Trelegy are a lot more likely to get pneumonia but I had the vaccination a couple of years ago so I am a little confused.
Does anyone know anything about this?

Thank you Pauline and it's good to know that Trelegy helped you. I've only been on it for about 8 weeks so it's early days yet.
I am trying to find out as much as possible as I'm new to all of this. I was diagnosed with COPD several years ago but never took much notice as it didn't seem to affect me until I had a sudden exacerbation recently.
I have never had pneumonia so I was a little confused as to why I should be more vulnerable to it as I'd already had the vaccination but I didn't know that there were different strains of it so that makes more sense now.
I am a little worried if I'm honest as my exacerbation was such a surprise to me but learning more about this condition is helping.
Hi, you have done so well then if this the first exacerbation you have really found needed treatment.
You are wise to educate yourself into the nitty gritty of the condition, especially preventing and reducing your risk of exacerbation in the future. Exacerbations usually leave scarring in the lungs and sometimes other issues too.
Asthma Lung UK is a wonderful source of information via their website or by speaking to their specialist help line. The online support groups are very helpful and worth signing up for.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Despite my nickname on here, I never had a cough before my exacerbation so I fear that you may be right with the damage done.
I think that I will give Asthma Lung UK a ring as I've been told that there's at least a 6 month wait for a spirometry test so perhaps they can advise me as to whether I need a rescue pack etc.
I'll definitely look into the support groups too.
Thanks again, you've made me feel better about all of this. x
I am not sure if you need to wait anyway, after a severe chest infection eg pneumonia…for a spirometry. Asthma Lung U.K. should be able to give you a general guide for that.
I've been using Trelegy for a year now and it's made a big positive difference to me. I didn't realise about the risk of pneumonia, but have had that a few times when on the other inhalers so will take my chances.
Thanks for responding and I'm glad that Trelegy is working for you, it gives me hope that it will eventually work for me too. I've been reading lots of studies and they say that Trelegy can make you more prone to catching pneumonia but quality of life is important too and if it helps then the risk is probably worth it.
