Trelegy or Trimbow

2024 wasn’t a good year for me. But my GP changed my medication to Trelegy powder inhaler & Acetylcysteine. There wasn’t any significant improvement so GP referred me to a consultant at the local hospital. The consultant prescribed azithromycin in addition to the above & I felt a LOTbetter. However that consultant was a locum who moved on & I got another locum who has changed my Trelegy to Trimbow. After 2 days I did not feel as well & I still don’t. More breathless & coughing. I assumed Trimbow would be an upgrade but it’s just not as effective as Trelegy. About 9 years ago I had a similar experience where a supposed upgrade in fact made me worse. I have COPD & Bronchiectasis.

Has anyone on this forum experience of Trelegy or Trimbow. Which is better. I feel I will have to give it longer than the week I have been on Trimbow. As I understand it I am under the care of the consultant so feel I can’t approach my GP about this. Any comment from other users would be appreciated.

I have asthma and COPD . I tried Trimbow my Peak Flow reading went down

After consulting my pharmacist , then asthma nurse I went back to my previous separate preventer and reliever . Nurse thought I may have had an exacerbation or infection , so try Trimbow again later .

Really annoys me when these Locum doctors come into our Surgery and change our medication then another changes it again. I have a Respiritory Team who call to my home and we discuss any medication..These are totally trained to treat COPD and other Respiratory conditions. I also am able to discuss any concerns with the Pharmacist at my surgery. Check if you have a Respiratory Team in your area .these work with the consultant at the hospital .Good luck. xx.Sheila

PS. I am unable to take powdered inhalers as the powder catches in my throat and causes me to cough..I refuse to take them .

I have never used Trelegy but have been on Trimbow for a good couple of years now and have told my respiratory team that lately I do not feel it is always as effective as it use to be but was told there is nothing more effective. Hope this helps

I have never had Trelegy but I was changed to Trimbow from Fostair some years ago and it works well for me. They did try me on powder inhalers but I didn't get on with them at all but I know others who favour them. I guess we are all different, Trimbow is considered one of the best inhalers (according to my hospital consultant), so maybe give it a chance and if you are still not happy go back to your respiratory team and ask for a change.

it's horrible when different doctors start changing meds when your already taking 1 that is effective I hope you get it sorted and go back on trelegy best wishes

Good morning Normc. I was on Trelegy for a good 3 plus years and was doing well. Then my breathing has got slightly worse over the winter and the nurse changed me onto Trimbow, and that was making my breathing worse and I was coughing more as well. She told me Trimbow was the best available and they couldn't give me anything else. So waiting to see a doctor now because I am taking nothing at present. Do you find a cup of coffee settles your breathing down for a while because I can't start the day until I have had 2 coffees. Brian
