hello , My GP is changing my preventer inhaler to Trelegy. Does anyone use this? I am rather concerned but my doctor thinks i will benefit from a steroid inhaler now rather than taking prednisolone when i have flare ups.

Trelegy
Hi, Ivebeen taking trelegy ellipta for a couple of years now. Not had any problems, only thing I would say is to remember to rinse mouth after use as it gave me a sore tongue when I first used it. Hope it works for you.
Yes great stuff, no problems after couple of years use. For me has made no difference to exacerbations, they just happen as usual.
Not "Trelegy" but I have beem on steroid inhalers for many years, no side effects at all..
Yes I have it. I get on really well with it. 1 puff a day and if I don't take it i really notice the difference. Best one I've had.
Hi Collie4,
I have been using Trelegy for some years now. I used to have the older ones!
I found that it works very well and did help the symptoms one gets with lung disease copd. Sometimes inhalators need to be changed to find the one that works best for you and your lungs!
Remember to rinse your mouth out after use.
I hope Trelegy works well for you!
😁👍
I use Trelegy and so far so good, it prevents a flare up.
I think that may be a good idea. At least the steroid will go into your lungs and not your body. I took some steroids after having a bout of pneumonia and ended up with a nasty spinal fracture. Apparently the steroids finished off my already weakened bones which I had no knowledge of. I’m still on a steroid inhaler now.
Yes, my GP is referring me for a bone density xray, as steroids can thin the bones i know. It’s quite a vicious circle isn’t it, we take steroids to help our breathing but could be damaging our bones. Have to be so careful.
It is a regular medication for our problems. There is a link below to the NHS about steroids. The dosage when taken for a flare up is much higher - 30mg pd tytpical - so this will be lower. Long term use will cause 'paper skin' issue so be careful and wear cotton gloves if doing anything risky.
Just one point which is slightly off centre - is your GP a specialist in COPD related diseases? If not I would strongly recommend referral to a specialists and that you take advantage of whatever COPD/lung/respiratory support there is locally. It is a very specialised field and the medications are constantly changing.
I have saspecialist and very immediate support from my local COPD team of specialist clincians and nurses.
hello, thank you for your reply. No, my GP is just a GP and sometimes i feel i know more than he does about copd etc , but i do have a respiratory nurse, who i can contact, and she reviews my copd every 6 months. Usually i have to chase this up. A couple of years ago i needed to see a consultant so i paid ( very expensive!), to see a private one who specialises in respiratory disease and i was impressed with the thoroughness, but i can’t afford to go private all the time unless i invest in private healthcare insurance which i may well do. In the meantime i will see how i get on with Trelegy,. I know that steroids can cause bone problems and thin skin, and as getting older it can be a problem.
Hello Collie4, Yes I was changed to Trelegy a number of years ago, It was fine until a deterioration meant that I needed a higher dose of inhaled corticosteroids (ics) then I was changed back to Incruse and Relvar.
Do rinse , gargle and spit after using it or the mouth can become quite sore and the voice hoarse.
Go well.
I have been on Trelegy Ellipta for a while now and I am guessing your COPD must be at stage 3 if you have now been prescribed it. I find it ok and (as others say) you need to rinse and gargle after inhaling. I prefer this to taking Prednisolone which I have found does absolutely nothing. If I could avoid anything with steroids in it I would do so, so in my opinion taking Trelegy is better than taking Prednisolone. I never have any exacerbations whatsoever since I’ve take this.
Oh, lucky you to be mild/moderate. I mentioned that because some health professional although I can’t remember who told me that one gets prescribed Trilegy when COPD gets worse as it contains steroids.
