Spiriva respimat new device

Hi, I've been on Spiriva respimat for a while now. I know that I need a new inhaler device every 6 months but this option is no longer in my repeat medication and when I request one they just prescribe a new refill. Can I request this when I get to the pharmacy or does it have to be in the prescription from the doctor? I have tried writing it in the notes for my prescription request but our Doctors ignores whatever we write in the notes. Thanks for any help.

Phone your Dr surgery or speak to the pharmacist. If the have a respiratory nurse they should be able to get it sorted. Good luck.

My consultant stopped Spiriva and now I have Incruse. She also stopped becloforte and gave me Fostair. It has bern a good combination for me.

I had exactly the same issue this last month. Although it used to be on my repeat and then it was removed.

After receiving 2 cartridges instead of the device, I visited Boots, they handwrote what the order should be, and then I went and saw the receptionist again at my Doctors!

It's still not on my repeat, with reminds me I still need to try and sort that out!

As I understood it, the device is replaced after each 6 refill cartridge is used. I've still got both the device and cartridge on my repeat prescription.

I have the opposite, I get a complete unit every time! What a waste of money 😡

I was recently repeat-prescribed 2 x Spiriva refills, and a new unit every 6 months, but the Jhoots attached to my GP surgery didn't have the cartridges I wanted, out of stock at the suppliers, they printed me an FP10 form to take to another pharmacy and guess what? They only had the complete units, so I now have 3 altogether., and the original inhaler has only had 2 cartridges used in it. I just looked and they are £49.99 retail! Reminds me of when I gave up smoking on the NHS and they gave me nicotine patches and inhalers that would cost hundreds of quid retail. I ended up returning over £120 worth of Nicorette inhalators because I didn't need them.

They’re forever giving me complete units instead of just the cartridge. Such a waste of money 😡

Yes, the 6-month per inhaler idea was supposed to be 'sustainable prescribing', my GP said, while rolling her eyes at the story when I told her.

Thanks everyone. I popped in to our pharmacy and asked them. They're very good and said they would sort it out for me.

I ask for refills and get a whole new one every time, despite being asked to order refills 🙄

My pharmacy said they can't get just the cartridges at the moment. I've got 4 units in my cupboard, and one on the go with 2 left until I chuck it.
