please be aware that there is a manufacturing problem and pharmacies are recommending that people contact their GP for an alternative when they need to renew their prescription.

If you are reading a recent news article can you provide the link please?
No not reading news articles, I went to the chemist to pick up my script up and was told that they were unable to get any, they had not been given a date as to when it will be available and that it was a nationwide problem. I was advised to contact my GP for an alternative until they sort themselves out, my GP was aware of the problem. Sorry I don't think I explained myself properly (still not convinced I have) it's just that I have been without and I won't be able to get an alternative till late Tuesday or Wednesday. I thought if people were prepared they wouldn't have to go without like I have.
No problem with Spiriva shortage in my area, just checked with my pharmacist today, at this point he has heard nothing about any shortage.
This Spiriva shortage could well be a post code thing.
Hope you and all who have problems will soon find the unavailability is short lived or you find a suitable alternative.

This is very worrying to me gillyj, I rely on spiriva and really don 't know how I would fare without it and don;t fancy an alternative, I always end up going downhill. Thanks very much for the info. Libby x
Thanks for the info I use spirava but not due a prescription for a few weeks yet. My practice want me to change inhalers or go without anyway so not sure what will happen when I see the doctor.Probably change everything then I'll end up being ill over Christmas can't count on anything these days even when your ill. Good luck with getting the inhaler you need.
My usual pharmacist (Sainsburys) was unable to supply two Spiriva refill cartons last Thursday. I went in on Friday and still no refills had arrived. He supplied me two cartons complete with Handyhalers instead. He never mentioned any problems but at least I am ok until the end of January. Hopefully any problems will be resolved by then.

hi Booby I had trouble a couple of weeks ago getting my refills, apparently each pharmacy has a quota of this drug per a month and once that has been reached they are unable to get any more.
I moved on to seebri a few months ago from spiriva and actually felt better .
Thanks for warning us .
There is a branded shortages list, and spiriva is on it psnc.org.uk/dispensing-supp...
It is useful to note, should chemists be unable to get the drug via the wholesaler, they can go directly to the manufacturer.
I saw that initial, was worrying that another drug of mine is on it too! Think I'll be speaking to my friendly neighbourhood pharmacist tomorrow! x
Do you think you could put that link on a new post (I tried to copy but couldn't for some reason) I see Symicort Turbohaler is also on the list and many folks will be on that too.
Thanks xx peeg
psnc.org.uk/dispensing-supp...
It should be a clickable link Peeg x
Yes it is, read it thank you but I wanted to put it in a new post. Peeps on Symbicort won't necessarily notice the Spiriva one
I've done that now x
Date on list is 2012
That's the last time they had reason to update it. Quote " This list is reviewed monthly against relevant criteria and last required amendment 12.11.12" unquote.
quite
So, that was the last time they had to add or subtract drugs from that list. Such a shame this hasn't been resolved before now.
As I said on your separate post, I called my pharmacist earlier and yes, there is an ongoing problem. As you say initial, the date on that list was the last "required" amendment and it is checked monthly, so no change since then presumably. x
boehringer-ingelheim.co.uk/... - link to the manufacturer saying supplies have just started being shipped to wholesalers in the last couple of days so hopefully will reach pharmacies fairly soon. x
I see it's the Spiriva Respimat and the capsules refill pack but not the Handi haler which I have. Glad I've got two spares in though as you never know!!
I switched a while back to Seebriee (sp)
How do you find it in comparison to spiriva, nanaber? Although I'm quite happy with the spiriva, if there was something else that was better, I'd be prepared to cajole my GP into prescribing it x
While I was taking spiriva I never felt any different but when I used seebrie I felt it working right away ill post the correct name when I go upstairs
Thanks for the info .......... trying hard not to panic too much, deep breathing required LOL
I spend a lot of time in France and there was a spiriva shortage here too. If the drugs can be obtained from the manufacturer direct why can't they be delivered to the wholesalers?
Hi Intial, I changed to See bri, 2 months ago, but have now gone back on Spiriva,Started to get very Wheezy, Apparently had seen on the site a new inhaler coming out about Jan ,So hoping can have a try of this .X
June is the new one you heard about called Novartis ? the Ultibro breezhaler ?
I have been reading about this and wondered if its better, has anoyone tried it?
I've just looked at 'Seebri '. It looks as though it works just like the Handi haler, so I must make a note of it just in case. Thank you. xx
according 2 chemist where I get mine was told the manafactures were closing down take care every1 xxx
They are closing a production site in US at the end of the year pharmalive.com/boehringer-i... but they do still have manufacturing bases in Italy, Germany, Spain and France, so we shouldn't go without our meds x
I asked my chemist yesterday if they were having problems with supplies when I handed my script in...............they hadn't heard of any luckily
I spoke to my chemist yesterday and he said they were having problems with supply and to ask the Doctor to prescribe the combi pack with the handihaler included. So am doing that right now. Thanks for the tip off. Take care, TAD xx
